C’mon I’m putting the trampoline in front of the basket!

What’s Bofa data?

One of the most blackpilling things about the Biden years was that we heard for *years* before that that ppl would happily support a slight rise in costs if it meant that lower wage workers got a raise & when we saw that actually get implemented a bit, ppl lost their fucking minds with rage

I’ve only watched the first two episodes so far, but it has annoyed me much less than the previous five Star Trek shows. Whether that’s lowered expectations or what, I don’t know.

I never said they didn’t exist. I never said that some people don’t keep track of the minutae of their spending.

What I said was the *majority* of people do not actually understand their spending as well as they think they do, and are extremely subject to perception biases.

I don’t especially want a corporation datamining me. I definitely don’t need more garbage on my phone. But what would I even do with that information?

With enough work I could slice and dice my data and compare it against annual income growth.

But I already know I’m subject to lifestyle creep.

Also if this data is so readily available, why are people not presenting it?

When these conversations happen why is there not a plethora of β€œhere’s what my app shows on honey baked ham purchases over the past eight years?”

Instead the response is always some variation of β€œI know my spending!”

I’ve never used a grocery store app in my life.

05.02.2026 23:59 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

First I’m hearing about it.

I guess I’m not understanding, I’m not familiar with this app.

Does it show past prices before you downloaded the app? And does it automatically load pricing?

Why did you post an ad for Bernie Sanders?

I believe the vast, vast majority of Americans (including myself) lack this skill, yes.

I would categorize it more as a result of being unable to see past natural biases, but call it what you will.

05.02.2026 18:56 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

When you say β€œmany” of your groceries, it doesn’t track all of them? Do you have to enter items individually?

Also to be clear, I’m not talking about the very poor who have to stretch every dollar. They’re better at finances than anyone.

I’m talking about the middle-ish class denizens of this site

05.02.2026 18:53 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Most adult Americans don’t remember who the president was in the year 2020. Let alone what they paid for colby jack.

I quite frankly do not believe that someone who is cooking their own meals can *accurately* tell me what they paid for dozens of different items over the course of multiple years.

05.02.2026 13:20 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

No, I’m saying that monthly and yearly expenditures are the *only* thing people reliably track.

Because unless you are, year after year always purchasing the exact same type and quantity of groceries, those metrics are not, and cannot be a reliable indicator of how much inflation affects you.

05.02.2026 13:14 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

People can’t even remember who was president six years ago, how on earth could they remember what they paid for red delicious apples?

05.02.2026 04:02 β€” πŸ‘ 5    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Yes but how many of those price changes can you accurately remember from year to year, decade to decade?

Yes people look at the prices of the things they buy when they’re buying. I don’t believe that they can accurately remember how individual prices have changed over long period of times.

05.02.2026 03:59 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Like I said, I don’t memorize exact item prices. I have a vague sense of how my grocery bill has gone up, but I couldn’t tell you the exact dollar figure for any one item. And part of that has just changed with lifestyle and preference changes. I don’t shop remotely the same way I have in the past.

05.02.2026 03:49 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Without looking, what does one pound of them cost, and what did one pound of them cost two, five, and seven years ago?

See, I don’t buy that people memorize exact item prices. Most (maybe not) people are going to be looking at the bottom line of their receiptβ€”not the minutae of individual items.

05.02.2026 03:25 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

β€œBuh my bill goes up! I know when muh bill goes up!”

Do you? Do you buy exactly the same groceries in exactly the same quantities from exactly the same place? Do you make the same meals and consume them at exactly the same rate? Do you keep a spreadsheet tabulating every purchase year over year?

05.02.2026 02:23 β€” πŸ‘ 8    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 3    πŸ“Œ 0

No they should run on the β€œwe will fix all your problems immediately and perfectly and please everyone at the same time” platform, obviously.

This is just the M4A polling all over again. If you ask registered Dems β€œhey do you want to abolish ICE?” Most will say yes. Do that many people genuinely want there to be no immigration and customs enforcement in the US? Highly doubt it.

Also, abolishing it is 100% impossible until at least 2029.

The best way to farm clout as a leftist is to pull a Hasan and say Dems suck. The best way to farm clout as a centrist is to pull a Bari and say Dems suck. The best way to farm clout as a conservative is to pull a Charlie and say Dems suck. The best way to farm clout as a fascist is, you guessed it,

Posters: PUNISH ICE.

Schumer: Okay, I've split DHS funding off from the Budget, so the economy won't shut down as we have two focused weeks of negotiation to demand real change of DHS from Trump.

Posters: ... (spinning pizza wheel)

BUT YOU DIDN'T PUNISH ICE!!!

When can we start the conversation about Liz Cheney Derangement Syndrome? I’ve never seen a political endorsement break so many brains.

I think in the short term, yes: terrorizing non-white people is a major goal for them. But beyond that? Its not like they’ve been able to stop women from getting credit cards, or re-segregate schools, or ban the teaching of evolution.

Something that makes American politics so asymmetrical is the Left insisting that every criticism of the GOP includes equal excoriation of Democrats when the Right has never and will never criticize Republicans.

What does this gain us? Feeling morally superior online? How many lives is that worth?
