Councilman Bunch has long been an expert and advocate for transit and mobility access for all Kansas Citians. He will serve us well. Three Kansas Citians serve on the KCATA board, which comprises 10 total individuals from metro counties in Missouri and Kansas.

Honored to get this appointment and very excited to get to work. As a local legislator and a regular public transit rider, I will bring a unique perspective to the KCATA board of commissioners.

It wouldnโt be social media if I didnโt brag about my kids occasionally. Here is one of our 8 year olds crushing this really steep overhang where she canโt even reach the footholds because sheโs too short. Didnโt get the send this time but figured out the beta.

Oh ๐ฏ My primary transportation mode is our public e-bike share fleet! The unexpected benefit for me (vs commuting on my acoustic bikes for the precious 15 years) was the ability to zip around in the heat of the summer while wearing a suit. Truly a game changer for so many folks.

As a resident of a very hilly city (nobody roll your eyes, Kansas City has legit hills) I would not resist the idea of some escalators or one of those things you can put your foot on to roll you and your bike uphill.

Yeah maintenance issues and not really an ADA accommodation because they arenโt that accessible. The building in the picture would require an elevator and/or accessible ramps which are far more inclusive. But still, my original reply was punching down and inadvertently ableist. Thanks for the nudge.
16.01.2025 16:58 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0
Of course! And my apologies for coming off as ableist. Escalators can certainly improve accessibility in addition to elevators and ramps.

KC friends, is there any kind of YIMBY group or other organizing force working to increase housing here? Or is it all decentralized neighborhoods groups and individuals?

kinda funny that all it took to defeat traffic in the most crowded city in the country was only a simple $9 congestion relief zone

Haha I realized after I replied that you likely werenโt referring to that specific street example. Sorry for the confusion!

And I think the most salient point to be gleaned is Democrats lose elections, not on the left-right fault lines, rather we lack convictions in our positions and voters lose confidence in us.

A Japanese newsstand
"Oh, but this just shows the nerdy, detail-obsessed nature of Japanese people," you say. Perhaps. But these publications can't exist without a distribution system (i.e., newsstands). And those newsstands can't exist without *dense walkable neighborhoods.*

Yeah Iโve thought of that but that specific street is like 28โ wide curb to curb so probably not practical in the example shown in that picture but Iโm all for snow road diets on our 4 lane streets! Iโll add that to the list of ideas!

Legally, adjacent property owner is required to clear the sidewalk and corner ADA ramps But the offending snow pile in this case was from plowing and is right at the curb, so unclear. Iโm connecting with transit authority to find out what their general practice is at accessible bus stops.

Snow pile at the curb with a low spot in the snow where people are climbing through. A car is blocking the low spot and then more traffic beyond that.
Just had to help a mom carry her double stroller through this snowbank so we could go out into the street to catch the bus. Another person had to help her older kid climb over a 3โ tall pile to catch a school bus.
We have to do better.
