Just casually gets one of the best bird portraits of all time

A song sparrow sits on a small hill of white snow with a seasonal deep green foliage of leaves faded behind it. It shows its iconic cute face peering over its little hill like it is the King of its little snow pile. It shows its gray cheeks alternating with a deep chestnut markings . This little bird appears so soft.

I have a cutie contestant for the “birds in snow” challenge. It was the during the lockdown and a deep frigid wave overcame Texas unlike anything we had ever seen. Who knew there were birds that LOVED THE SNOW? Like this little Song Sparrow playing king of the mountain! #bird #birds #birdsinthesnow

I once spotted a once-in-a-lifetime American Golden Plover at the door of this little beauty. Long before I decided to take photos of anything. I remember my mother telling me about how many traveling birds loved this spot for its natural defense against the gulf winds.

This scene shows a border of slender Green leaves with dark red stems and a multitude of dusky-blue berries that are known as the wax myrtle tree. In the very center is a bird with a bright white chin, white eye-ring, white wing bars, showing its butt, perched on the red stem with the dusky-blue berries. It is looking over its shoulder at the camera. It is perched and perky with small glistening droplets of water going along its back. This bird is called the yellow-Rumped warbler, made popular by a meme as being the bird that sparks the birding hobby. What is missing from this picture is its iconic bright yellow spot on top of the tail as we are seeing the underside of the birds butt and not the above side this bright yellow spot is of course how the bird got its name.

It’s that time of year where the legendary Yellow-Rumped Warblers (Formerly referred to as the the Myrtle Warblers) have returned to feast on the berries of the Wax Myrtle trees that line the east side of the backyard. This is the second-best photo I ever took of one before. #birds #bird #borb

An imperfect photo shows a golden-crowned kinglet off to the left with two branches impending a clear view. You can see the diagnostic golden vent in its head and a curious down turn look on its face with its dark eyes and small black pointed bill. The background is showing some light aberration and blurred giving a soft dreamy look.

My favorite time of the year is when Kinglets arrive to North Texas. I always think they’re something else until I hear them. They’re so curious and come in so close, but always meticulously perched just out of reach and always in the shadows of the trees.

That is one sensational moth for sure!

“Meow! meow”, I heard from the magnolia tree! Thinking a feral cat was praying on my feeder visitors I went to go rustle the branches , but unbeknownst to me, a Gray Catbird appears ! Meow meow meow #birds #birdsofbluesky

An open water scene with water grasses embarking the top and lower portion of the frame with a Black-necked Stilt posing over reflective water. The bird has long skinny orange legs, a big white rotund belly with a black pair of wings with black running up its neck (as it’s aptly named) and cap on its head. Its long slender bill is profiling left. Very scenic and still.

Last October I managed to get an almost perfect reflective shot of this Black-necked Stilt. Still think that’s a crazy awesome name for a bird.

So it goes

A black swallowtail tail with its wings open shows the female with less yellow than its male counterpart and more iridescent blue along the bottom parts of its wings.

But once emerged they quickly pump a wing growing hormone through ducts that run from their abdomen to its wings. And in a matter of 2-3 hours . These beautifies are ready to fly!

We like to bring some of the fatter caterpillars inside since my backyard is a bird sanctuary as well. And these parsley flavored caterpillars are a favorite of the nesting cardinals. But here is what the cocoon looks like and it will stay this way for a couple weeks.
