Was discussing the amount of profanity used in my manuscript, and realized, disappointingly, that I cut out this line from some of Roxanne Conlin's interview prep in Iowa's 1982 gubernatorial race.

Time stamps show my descent into madness as the copyediting process continued. Marketing questionnaire shows...well, how to pronounce "Haala," I guess. (And/or how uncool I am.)
Both sent off to @illinoispress.bsky.social as of this morning! "When Democrats Won the Heartland" inches closer!
luv 2 get these great #mnufc updates from @theathletic.com
29.07.2025 17:47 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0While in Grand Marais for a bachelor party, did I leave the group while we were downtown, go to the local historical society, and talk to the staffer about internships and/or speaking to my students?
Of course I did, because I have no life and/or like my job.
GAH NOT COOL, WHO ASKED FOR THIS
25.07.2025 14:05 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The real treat was the upper part of Riverside Park:
* Beautiful CWA (FERA?)-built bathhouse, 1934
* Sluiceway at 6th and 27th
* This limestone cascade π
* Now-overgrown retaining walls
* Beautiful staircase on lower grounds
* Sod, grading, ballfields, etc.

For some reason I'm hearing this in a Welsh accent. Don't hate it, though.

We talk. He brings another book..another...another...and now I'm back in grad seminar.
Lots to read, and cite, soon!
#NewDealMinneapolis where the WPA magic happened:

In 1986 eventual primary losers to Senate nominee Ed Garvey sued him and the Wisconsin Action Coalition.
In 1992 Tim Penny attacked Paul Wellstone and the Wellstone Alliance after they helped David Minge flip MN's rural 2nd District.
Centrists dislike grassroots enthusiasm. The more things change!
This all feels a LITTLE too on the nose, right, @jeffmanuel.bsky.social?

Got way too excited about this #NewDealMinneapolis find: original WPA-poured concrete on the courts at Bassett's Creek Park. Might be my favorite pic/find of this project
Who wants to be the first to hit with me here? Optional pre-lecture on the WPA.
The Zohran Mamdani SAT Debate is at least a departure from press releases about geriatric senators' medical maladies?
Reminded me of when a North Dakota D-NPL senator released his colonoscopy results, then physically bullied his opponent at a debate: coryhaala.org/uncategorize...
This was such a good line and, along with the reminder about George W. Bush's "Get down to Disney World" exhortation, actively changed how I taught my 1990s and 2000s lectures.

Happy Pride everyone. I wrote a column about gay rights pioneer Thom Higgins, who called Minnesota home for most of his (too short) life. I really want more people to know the story of this remarkable guy. Please read and share (gift link)!

WPA built the public housing (1938, demo'd 1998) + park (also redone), funded female workers at Phyllis Wheatley. (3/3)
First stop was odd. See the triangle that looks like a yard? It's Oliver Triangle, a spit of public land the WPA resodded in 1936.

Today's #NewDealMinneapolis: 6 parks, 0 trace of WPA markers. Good ride in Near North.

* North Commons (gif): got all those tennis courts, plenty of work, but all since redone
