As a German I can tell you that hiding doesn't help. It's escalating to a point where hiding is no longer possible and can easily end with cities in ruins.

How do they determine whether he's still president? Because depending on how this plays out, him officially being deposed might take some time even after Damascus falls. *Saying* you're still president without having much control might easily buy a few weeks, and 2024 isn't that long any more

In my opinion it's still better than the US. At least over here there are alternatives and for the most part the far right isn't in power (yet).
