I wish I knew why posts like this were necessary? I think in the current climate we’re all pretty certain that we are insignificant; no need for reminders.

Ugh, this will launch me into a rough book hangover, I just know it. This has probably been my favorite book of the year so far. Absolutely stunning; I don’t think I’ve thought so much about about how a book made me feel after finishing it. 5 stars for this gem.

Also, if you have the special edition, check inside the dust jacket…. πŸ€–

What a unique blend of sci-fi and fiction. It’s a book within a book, a fascinating depiction of Nigerian and Nigerian-American culture (especially to this readers ignorant eyes), and an exploration of what it means to be a storyteller. I’m still pondering the ending but I loved it. 5⭐️

Ok, I have been plowing through Murderbot and this has been my favorite. How I love this series!

If you need an escape, these books are such a delight. Fun, emotionally intelligent, and well-paced to keep those pages turning. Excellent slump busters!

My third Austen this year. Classics have been a respite; I find it difficult to read anything set in more modern times, as they were written before all of…this.

Unfortunately, the plot of this book was so familiar (thanks Clueless!) that it wasn’t as engaging for me. Still a worthy read!

I’m a couple of chapters in, I will honestly say that it is on the dense side. The magic system is on the β€œtechnical” side.

What am I even supposed to read and or do when I finish the Murderbot Diaries? 😭 I’m on book 5 and I’m so invested and immersed. The hangover is going to be brutal. πŸ€–

Physical - Blood Over Brighthaven
Audio - Jane Eyre

Enjoying both!

I would actually love a recommendation for an aromatic fantasy. I was excited that we might be one small step closer to smell-o-vision

Omg another snowstorm. The kids haven’t had a full week of school since early December. I love my kids but my god, I need some structure πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ˜β„οΈ

Well, it’s not THE goriest, but it was definitely more so than I expected. Some of the ways that people are killed (by way of β€œexperimenting” with magic) was kind of a lot for me. I had to skim at times.

I began looking for a fun bookish fantasy, and ended it satisfied but also wondering why there needed to be so much death and gore. It almost leans into horror at some points, with truly evil big bads.
Sensitive readers, just know this isn’t a fluffy book about magic books. 3.75 stars

Ugh. These kids won’t have a full week of school until April at this rate.

I’ve read Wuthering Heights and wasn’t a major fan of it. I’ll put persuasion on the list :)

Yeah, I tried a reread given that it’s been at least a decade(?) since I’ve read it and disliked it. I didn’t last long; it’s really not for me.

I enjoyed it but I admit to not adoring it. I took the Louisa May Alcott and LM Montgomery paths at the formative age when I likely would have enjoyed Jane Austen the most.
A bit late to the party but I wanted to at least give her a try given how revered she is.

As an elder millennial I cannot count the amount of times I have seen clueless πŸ˜‚ I may have even read the follow-on novels that were released after the movie came out

If you mean Daphne Du Maurier’s Rebecca, I have read that one and loved it :)

Haha πŸ˜† I figure I have watched so many adaptations of Emma through the years that surely I can mark it as read?

I know I read Wuthering Heights when I was a late teenager going through a β€œI’ll read the classics” phase. My memory isn’t pulling up much to recollect, I don’t think it was a fave.

It’s not a bad idea to try them on audio; I know I’ve seen a few for free from time to time. Perhaps they’d be easier to parse, I have to admit the language of the time is not always the easiest for me to read when I’m a bit tired.

14.02.2025 23:03 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I’ll put that on the top of the list :)

I finally read Pride and Prejudice, my first Jane Austen novel. The bookish world seems to so often reference her; I always felt like I was missing something!

I feel kind of proud of myself for managing (to understand) a classic in these distracted times.

Which Austen to tackle next?

Holy moly.
5 dazed stars.

We’re with Ben, he’s on a path. He can’t leave the path or he’ll die; but if he stays on the path he’ll never die.

Not horror, not fantasy, it’s something else. I loved it.

Stay busy, stay productive (in some way, whatever this means to you), read tangible paper books, go on walks. Keep yourself plugged into the actual, real world where trees and animals live. Read the headlines but don’t dig in unless that story makes it past the 24 hour news cycle.

I was iffy on this one. The first half is bleak and as someone who has struggled with depression, really affecting. Not in a good way. While I enjoyed the second half, the bubbly lightness and tidy wrap-up required quite a bit of magical thinking.

Witty, insightful. Trigger warnings!
