I've always suspected that ἀρσενοκοίτης should be translated as 'couch potato', another neologism that future translators would probably be baffled by.

This is giving me flashbacks to the hours I spent trying to get that to behave in a project last year.

Today, we’re announcing the preview release of ty, an extremely fast type checker and language server for Python, written in Rust.

In early testing, it's 10x, 50x, even 100x faster than existing type checkers. (We've seen >600x speed-ups over Mypy in some real-world projects.)

I have so much respect for folks who know how to actually work through conflict in a healthy way.

Fair enough. For me Rust is my current favorite language, and the Leptos signal system is close enough to Svelte reactivity to make it a doable transition for me.

This is precisely why I'm finding Leptos so compelling at the moment: it gives me a unified type system on both front and back end.

Same here. I'd be interested in more tools to clearly delineate functional and imperative code: currently I use function coloring heavily for this. But in the same way Rust can tell me 'this function won't mutate its arguments,' I'd like a way of guaranteeing 'this function has no side effects.'

I've noticed my software development philosophy is migrating from asking 'how can I get my code to do the desired task' to 'how can I minimize the likelihood of my code doing the wrong thing.'

The latter is much broader and much harder than the former, of course.

It does amaze me just how unusable the platform has gotten recently. Clearly some manager there is running an experiment to see just how bad the signal/noise ratio can get before they lose their entire userbase. Not sure what the plan after that is.
