We don't want this, we just don't have the power to fix it unless EVERYONE is working together on that. And we've been taught all our lives that protests that inconvenience people are Morally Wrong.

We're not evil. We're terrified and isolated and disenfranchised in the extreme.

We're starving, sick and cannot take time off work without losing our food, homes, or healthcare. It's de facto legal for our government to imprison/kill us for protesting, and our news networks are run for profit, not dissemination of information. Our legislators choose who gets to vote for whom.

To clarify why it's so important to deconstruct historic structures instead of just demolishing blindly when undertaking a renovation, the Saenger Theater in New Orleans was restored & modernized in 2010-2013. Blueprints were long lost but during deconstruction, THEY FOUND A FULL SET IN A CRAWLSPACE

I just posted this as a standalone post but thought I'd post it as a reply here too.

If I just stopped being like this, people would like me.” Kiki hugs the child version of herself. “You have been brave long enough. You’ve been scolded enough, what you - I would have needed was to be seen. You’re not alone anymore, we will find a way. Together.”

Small kiki is pulling the adult Kiki by the hand through their apartment. “Don’t punish emotions,pay attention to them. Missing a shower isn’t failure, it’s a sign, a clue. Ask what’s missing, not what’s wrong with you.” Kiki is standing behind her child self, holding her shoulders in support. “It’s not fair that I never got to feel like I am okay the way I am, that no one say how much I struggled and took all the pain away. Look at everything you’ve been through. It makes sense that you’re the way you are. Let’s try our best. Not to get it right for others, but to finally get to know how WE do things.” “At the very least, I can have my own back.”

Shame is one of the hardest things about ADHD for me. I'm back and the book is finished but instead of feeling proud, I feel ashamed for not having managed to stay active, manage my household better or even shower regularly.

Does "No social media can do human moderation at scale" mean it's impossible, or just that it's not profitable?

Is every public square on the internet operating on such razor-thin margins that they can't afford the kinds of moderation we were using ten or fifteen years ago?

All of that together makes it seem like the moderators are just a spot-checker or beta tester, and the AI is the one setting the policy. The humans are just playing catchup.

I'm very confident this isn't the way internet companies used to do things. We can talk about why, but denying it's possible?

That's to say nothing of the fact that these moderation actions are coming days or weeks after the content is posted, or the fact that "review by moderators" always includes the disclaimer that "we do not control the algorithm" and "we have corrected the problem for this image already."

I hear this claim a lot. But it still doesn't make any sense to me. Yes, millions of users, millions of posts, but... surely there was a point, not even that long ago, when social media sites were moderated *WITHOUT* black-box machines that operate on logic we don't understand. We just got those!

Genuinely, every fucking social website has had a "Whoops! Our untested AI moderator system flagged something that wasn't against the rules and which never should have been blocked, and letting it do so made the community less safe!" moment by now.

Why are they still trying to use them?
