22.07.2025 02:21 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I just tried placing an order to Canada via the UK site, and it says no delivery to Canada :(
Any suggestions?
Seconded! And if you like βLanguage of the Nightβ, while itβs not quite out yet, you can now pre-order the essay collection @bluejo.bsky.social & I have coming out soon, βTrace Elements: Conversations on the Project of Science Fiction & Fantasyβ (available any normal book pre-order place).

Is it just me, or is anyone else thinking that this could/should apply to ICE agents "arresting" the wrong people?

I learned very recently that the term is extraordinary rendition.
18.04.2025 23:02 β π 143 π 29 π¬ 8 π 1Just figured out where these fake tariff rates come from. They didn't actually calculate tariff rates + non-tariff barriers, as they say they did. Instead, for every country, they just took our trade deficit with that country and divided it by the country's exports to us. So we have a $17.9 billion trade deficit with Indonesia. Its exports to us are $28 billion. $17.9/$28 = 64%, which Trump claims is the tariff rate Indonesia charges us. What extraordinary nonsense this is.
james surowiecki has discovered where the completely fabricated trump tariff rate has come from for each country
"...for every country, they just took our trade deficit with that country and divided it by the country's exports to us."
If this is true, it's still wild to me that individual ICE agents are willing to do that bidding.
When you've got this kind of anonymous state-endorsed chaos, the agents are at risk of being shot by good Samaritans with guns.
And everyone is at risk from criminals posing as ICE
Orange cat wearing a tie, sitting on an antique chair beside some full bookshelves, looking attentively offscreen, waiting for instructions
31.03.2025 02:11 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Sure, there's the vigilantes that will cosplay as law enforcement.
But why isn't ICE concerned about a vigilante with a gun stopping a kidnapping?
Can someone explain it to this Canadian? If law enforcement are plainclothes or masked and don't identify themselves, how are citizens supposed to know whether they are witnessing a criminal kidnapping or a lawful arrest?
30.03.2025 21:10 β π 134 π 7 π¬ 13 π 1Just bought Cross Fire by @fondalee.bsky.social on sale for $1.99 from Google Play books. For how much I loved the Green Bone saga, there was no good excuse for this book to be missing from my library. Can't wait to read it!

At risk of repeating myself: The Luddites werenβt against technology. They were against getting put out of work by a technology that did a version of their job faster but worse, in the service of increasing profits for their bosses.

β¨Some of my workβ¨
When Animorphs ended, fans were vocal about how they didn't like the depressing ending.
K.A. Applegate responded with amongst the most brutal letters I've read.
It takes a generational talent to tell your fans "If you're mad at me because that's what you have to take away from Animorphs, too bad."
Any chance of a Toronto stop? Maybe @bakkaphoenix.bsky.social ?
