The Long History of Supreme Court Reform Americans have tinkered with the high court since the founding.

Jesse Wegman's first piece for the Brennan Center breaks down the history of near-constant reforms to the Supreme Court, dating back to the founding. He reminds us of Congressโ€™s power to change the Court and urges reformers to think boldly and act accordingly. bit.ly/4atgYkQ

Thats interesting. I thought it was just semi-literate pedantry. People love to argue with strangers on the internet.

This is where Minnesota toddlers are still being held. Even with parents who did nothing wrong.

I've been seeing a lot of people disparaging democracy as a failure. It has not failed us. We however as a nation have been failing it.

For it to succeed, it needs an engaged and informed populace. Which is why those who want power but not responsibility, attack Free speech and public education

This is a truly horrifying memo. It says that the policy of the US government will now be to proactively seek out and arrest likely tens of thousands of refugees who entered legally under Biden and subject them to detention, where they will be interrogated about their status.

Jared Kushnerโ€™s โ€œPlanโ€ for Gaza Is an Abomination Kushner is pitching a โ€œnew,โ€ gleaming resort hub. But scratch the surface, and you find nothing less than a blueprint for ethnic cleansing.

Donโ€™t be fooled by Kushnerโ€™s Gaza fantasy. The plan is to confine Palestinians to hyper-surveilled prison camps and exploit them as cheap labor for luxury developments theyโ€™ll never live in, all built atop mass graves. My latest for @thenation.com

Ironically, all they'd have to do is say " Newsom, here's what I want for you to earn my vote in the primaries", and I'd be a fuck yeah, welcome to the team. Pull him to the left. But they're not interested in messy persuasion of democracy.

17.02.2026 13:19 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

"every single election the same people find an excuse to bow out, then blame the candidate." Yeah. Fuck em. Not persuadable. amplifying them validates them. They're angry, hopeless, & fundamentally not interested in democracy.

17.02.2026 13:17 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Yes. I'm saying arguing w/ these attention vampires is a waste of time & energy. Esp re: Newsom. Not persuadable. My POV is mock, dismiss and block is more effective to persuade and enlist observers here than engaging and amplifying someone like this. IE "they're weird"

Not interested in helping or supporting those of us fighting. Lumping everyone in the US under "MAGAstan", which is also, I think, not so subtly anti-Muslim? "I used to love that place, visited everywhere, but you're doomed, sucks to be you." Fuck this guy and anyone like them.

Maybe I'm using populist incorrectly? I do mean representing the working class & IDing the central issue of our probs correctly, & that they exist. Pointing to real problems was why Trump I caught fire. He just blamed brown ppl rather than the rich, obvs.

Los Angeles Police Department Encourages School
Attendance Amid Recent Downtown Activity
Los Angeles: In light of recent activity in the downtown area, the Los Angeles Police Department would like to take this opportunity to remind parents and students of the importance of staying in school.
School attendance is mandatory in the City of Los Angeles and there may be legal consequences for parents and students for:
โ€ข Day time Curfew violations - It is unlawful for any minors under 18 to be in public places, streets, or amusement spots during school hours (typically 8:30 am
to 1:30 pm. The only exception includes being with a parent, authorized school activities, or emergencies.
โ€ข California Education Code violations:
โ€ข Mandates that all children between the ages of six and eighteen, unless exempted, must attend a full-time public day school for the full designated school day.
โ€ข Middle and high school students are legally permitted one excused absence per calendar year to participate in a "civic or political event," provided advance school notification (emphasis added).
โ€ข Additionally, Los Angeles Unified School District policy states that three or more unexcused absences or tardies of 30 minutes or more, can trigger a School Attendance Review Board (SARB) intervention for disciplinary action.
Parents and students are also reminded that presence at school promotes intellectual growth. It becomes more difficult to fill knowledge gaps with student absences. Attendance builds good habits and healthy routines; and provides structure and stability. Lastly, school attendance also increases student safety, which includes safety resources provided by the Los Angeles Unified School District.
