The EU has treated us unfairly

Maybe there an aspect of the EU needing to people fairly who have homes, family and livelihood that cross borders after 47 years of membership.

Clearly UK gov must do the same too, but I think everyone will have their eye firmly on how UK gov behaves in that regard.

๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท Many people assume Brits get 2 x 90 days in France each year after Brexit.

But they *only* get that if they stay away from *every* other Schengen country.

Which means no business trips to Germany. No conferences in Brussels, no holidays in Greece, no visiting children living in Spain.

Among other Brexit impacts, the 90-in-180-day problem affects millions of British people, to a greater or lesser extent.

Itโ€™s incredible really that Starmerโ€™s government hasnโ€™t tried to do anything about it yet.

When I broke down in tears at work in Glasgow, on the day of the result, a colleague kept berating me, "Have you ever lived there? How long? How long?" โ€“ ignoring the fact this *is* Europe. She was always banging on abt having worked in Dubai for a few yrsโ€ฆ

Yes. They don't give a damn abt millions of us who quite simply can't afford to uproot and move elsewhere.

We are.

And itโ€™s time we were allowed to say to.

It shouldnโ€™t be a competition about who is the bigger victim. Brexit has many victims and our politicians have the power to put most of this right.

There are lots of options for doing so too.

This pisses me off. The attitude of the Irish and Europeans and some Brits on here towards us. We're victims of Brexit.

Who cares, you Putin-loving public-school grifting ponce? Just because the air is coming out of your tyres, doesn't mean you get to demand that the race start four years early. F-off back to Florida.

I think so too.

Even the language around the youth mobility campaign is designed to do that.

This really is mind blowing.

Interview: British couple ordered to leave France due to bad year at work Couple have invested at least โ‚ฌ300,000 in home, wood cabin gรฎte and farm in Dordogne

This is why Freedom of Movement matters.

When youโ€™ve given up everything to move to another country and have a bad year, you donโ€™t expect to be kicked out of your home over arbitrary income threshold rules.

Neither France nor UK should behave like this.

If the EU needs to get concerned about the risk to EU citizens today from this fringe partyโ€™s latest policies then I think they should have got concerned about the risk to EU citizens a long time before Brexit actually happened. And Iโ€™m including British people in that.

23.09.2025 14:55 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 4    ๐Ÿ” 2    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Oh for Godโ€™s sake: a national flag (particularly a Union one) is not a racist symbol. Itโ€™s racist when you use it to emphasise your dislike of immigrants and intimidate them. To reclaim the flag as a symbol of liberalism and tolerance is *exactly* what needs to happen.

21.09.2025 19:50 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 31    ๐Ÿ” 4    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 4    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Of course British people could stay as long as they liked before Brexit (regardless of whether or not it they own property).

You should know this.

They had Freedom of Movement. See EC2004/38.

Tax is a separate matter.

The 90-in-180-day problem definitely exists.

It is the problem created when visitor days are counted across 29 countries but resident days are counted across just one.

If you donโ€™t have pre Schengen bilateral deals then the 90-in-180-day problem likely affects you.

Kinnock tells Starmer to consider rejoining the EU to tackle small boats crisis Lord Kinnock says he understand it would not be easy but โ€˜if we really want sustained economic growth, we have to be part of a body of the single market with our nearest neighboursโ€™

๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ Former Labour leader Neil Kinnock has told Sir Keir Starmer it is โ€œtime to look at rejoiningโ€ the EU to ease the countryโ€™s economic woes and get a grip on small boat crisis.

Kinnock, led Labour 1983 to 1992, said UK could no longer afford the โ€œhuge self-inflicted lossesโ€ created by leaving EU
