It should be noted also that Schulz uses a stereotypical growling "Blaccent" when speaking for Leeroy, and the original character in the meme had the darkest skin tone possible for characters of that time - a fact that has since been whitewashed by Blizzard's more modern depictions of the character.

There is also, of course, the famous American musician of the same name - while I don't think Leroy was a DIRECT inspiration for Ben Schulz's creation, he was (unsurprisingly) Black: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leroy_J...

For starters, the name. While neither are inherently Black names, they do both share respective notoriety as such, with Leroy being identified as a "Black-sounding name" in the 1920's. "Jenkins" was a popular post-War surname for freed slaves and 40% of Jenkins are Black per last US census.

I hate to not skeet anything for months and then come out of the woodwork to be the biggest bummer on the planet, but I'm really disappointed at Blizzard's continued use of Leeroy Jenkins, who is an obvious and unfortunate caricature and parody of popular American Black stereotypes 🧵
