I understand why you think I think that- let me clarify I get that the article isnt advocating degrowth. Also note Im only advocating for nuclear here, not fossil fuels

My question is: why cant we build out work-based RES AND nuclear? Energy demands will inc., why cant we meet it in multiple ways?

06.10.2025 11:49 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I'm not advocating for extending fossil fuels

I'm saying we should expand our energy capacity through any means possible (except for FFs)- nuclear is often derided, but the large amounts of energy it produces can be put toward desal + scrubbing. I only advocate for them using excess energy produced

06.10.2025 11:38 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

So yeah, renewables should have less energy lost, but "aiming lower" for energy targets in a world with increasing energy demands yearly is silly.

Especially considering major strategies to fight back against climate change include utilizing cheap, clean energy on CO2 scrubbers and desalination.

Up to 10*, not 11. In the article it says "below 11", meaning not including drivers going 11, who will be ticketed. As they should be.

But your phrasing here implies drivers going 11 ("up to 11...") won't be ticketed.

We often assume seniors rely on driving and can't use active transportation for their daily needs, but often it's the reverse: many people become unable to drive as they age. This #WeekWithoutDriving, I'm thinking of my great aunt and others like her who get around without a car.

"The province says grocery stores must process bottle returns if they want to sell beer and wine."

How can we possibly enforce that when the LCBO doesn't? πŸ’€ I haven't been able to return empties in years cause all the Beer Stores downtown/nearby have closed

Angela Bischoff said that QC will act like a battery, exporting their energy to us to support ON's intermittent solar and wind generation.
(paraphrased from the event tonight)

This is deeply, tragically misinformed. Not to mention sowing doubt in renewables- "intermittent"!

International climate objectives will not be met if nuclear power is excluded, according to UNECE report | UNECE

Lots of citing of the UN Climate Change plan tonight, while clearly ignoring this piece:

And more of a personal grievance: each of the 4 panelists pronounced it "nuke-u-lar".

It'd be nice if the critics for nuclear actually had the science background to understand it's "nu-clear", as in the nucleus of the atoms decaying to produce abundant energy for us.

NO concrete path was suggested for reducing Ontario's fossil fuel use, but instead, there was a non-stop tirade against nuclear power (which is 50% of ON's energy and is safe and efficient).

This was a shameful display of regression and fearmongering from the @ndp.ca

@paulafletcher.bsky.social @petertabuns.bsky.social Hosted a panel on ON's energy future- there was no opportunity for questions from the public, and even the chat function was disabled partway through.

There were a lot of misinformed takes against nuclear, and very little said about fossil fuels!

The condo market is crashing. Here’s how we keep building as prices fall For years, restrictive zoning made the midrise apartment impossible. That fight isn’t over, but it is no longer the biggest obstacle. Beyond high development taxes, the emerging barrier today is

Just in time for Single Stair Summer!

We support the two main calls from @ericlombardi.bsky.social to unlock in 2- and 3-BR units the same price drops we're seeing in condos:

1) Single stair buildings up to 6 storeys.

2) European elevators up to 10 storeys.

...could not possibly have accounted for.

Almost funny how small of an issue this is, over 1 m of setback, but the precedent it sets for all of the city's unique streets gives people the idea they can irrationally resist against healthy, equitable, citywide changes... and win.

More housing now.

I was the lone renter.

There were a lot of people who seem to think that the City's suggestion was a "good compromise".

But this "compromise" weighs the voices of just a handful of people in one small area against both the rest of the city, and the lives of future residents- lives that staff...

Last night, the City hosted a public consultation for Craven Rd (Councillor Paula Fletcher's ward).

Staff worked almost a year on a request for bespoke policy, carving out this one road from the City's zoning bylaw permitting as-of-right garden suites, which came out in 2022.

Fare capping, yes! I actively avoid the TTC certain months because the calendar doesn't make it worth buying a pass, but I'd love to not have to worry about that. 40 trips is way more reasonable to hit than the ridiculous 48 needed to be worth it currently.

I get ran at while crossing intersections because left-turning drivers are too busy messing with their GPS, but sure, let's bully the guys exposed to the elements 10 hr/day trying to feed their families.

How about we get TPS to actually enforce the laws for cars before blitzing on delivery workers?

I'm sure the insurance companies in the rest of the world can vouch for the decades of success of single-stair in their countries!

Like it or not, you're in the game though. Density allows for more property taxes to fund city services, and if your children/younger family can afford to live here.

I never said single stair buildings cause fires.

Staircases were added in previous building designs 100 years ago because you're right, they were more of a fire risk.

Were.

We build apartments with concrete and sprinkler systems now. Extreme fire retardancy. The rest of the world understands this
