One of the buildings Toronto could unlock for itself if it allowed single-stair egress up to 8-storeys... Conveniently, exactly what we're pushing the city to adopt!

Works out to about 28 families living here and enjoying the shared space, and all the benefits that go with that!

public consultation results for dedicated transit lanes on bathurst+dufferin. note overwhelming support (75%+ dufferin, 67-68% bathurst) for transit priority+converting parking to transit lanes.

transportation services recommendations + councillor compromises do not reflect what people want.

(1/7) We are disappointed that City Staff have backed away from recommending RapidTO dedicated transit lanes on Bathurst and Dufferin north of Bloor. These routesβ€”especially Dufferinβ€”have been held up as a cornerstone commitment by this City Council to prioritize transit riders.

Apparently the councilor thinks any kind of variety of housing designs that will support diverse incomes and help the deepening housing crisis is "ridiculous".

Apparently the federal government should just shut up and fork over cash for nothing.

Shamefully narrow-minded leadership on display here.

city councillors when nobody but septuagenarian homevoters show up: this is the finest tradition of local democracy at work

city councillors when literally anyone else shows up: well that's not REAL public consultation

With an important vote coming to council next week on legalizing multiplexes, we wanted to have a conversation with Ronald who specializes in Multiplexes!

Come ask your questions about what it takes to unlock more multiplexes and homes in Toronto

Catch us this Monday @ 4pm!

Ford insults First Nations fighting for their legal rights.

The insults are a divide and conquer strategy to scapegoat First Nations.

Bill 5 is an attack on not just treaty rights, but the democratic rights of all Ontarians.

That said- as inventory increases, landlords will learn they CAN'T raise rents aggressively like that. I actually just negotiated my landlord down by 7% by insinuating I'd move- she'd rather take the hit than go tenant+hunting again.

If we build and grow at scale, this will become more normal.

12.06.2025 13:52 β€” πŸ‘ 4    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I know, and I hate the lack of rent control and the Ford govt too. But that doesn't make it right or good to stop making new homes. The situation you described isn't good, but it beats the current situation of everyone's rent STARTING AT your month 13 and only increasing from there.

Recent analysis by N. Barry Lyon Consultants Limited (NBLC) has shown that rental rates in privately leased condominium apartments as well as the purpose-built rental units have been declining since 2024. There are multiple forces behind the recent decline in Toronto rents, most notably a recent surge in new rental homes supply, uncertainty in the job market, and reduced inflows of non-permanent residents.

There are multiple forces behind the recent decline in Toronto rents, most notably a recent surge in new rental homes supply, uncertainty in the job market, and reduced inflows of non-permanent residents.

As reported by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, purpose-built rental
apartment completions in the City of Toronto hit record-highs over the past two years,
totalling 4,979 completions in 2023 and 4,579 in 2024, nearly double the 10-year annual
average of approximately 2,600 rental apartments. However, due to wider challenges
facing the construction industry such as high construction costs and moderating
demand, it is estimated that once the current under construction inventory is absorbed,
the current wave of completions is unlikely to persist resulting in a potential slowdown in
rental supply in the coming years.

Oh my goodness. They said it!
We built more homes and rents came down. Now we are not building more homes and rents will go up.

The provincial gov has been elected for a 3rd straight majority. Rent control is their purview, and we all know where they stand on it

At the muni level, we can at least build more and introduce competition into the market to bring prices down. This also makes it easier to build affordable projects

Open Letter to Councillor Saxe RE RapidTO Bathurst A blog about cycling and political advocacy based in Toronto, Canada. (#BikeTO)

I hope that answered your original question. If not, let me know how! I think that question is more self-contained than the labelling.

Again, if you want to discuss the labelling, DMs are open :) but that'd be a conversation I'd find tough to have effectively in 300-character skeets. All the best!

10.06.2025 17:09 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Sean, myself, and many others are the "some people seeing conservatism" to which I refer. These people see policies like I listed as conservative, and I think that's a fairly common sentiment.

I don't see me saying this as an attack or argument on you, just a statement of perspective.

10.06.2025 17:09 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

If you'd like to have a discussion about that, I'm happy to in DMs where we can communicate more effectively. Your idea to reduce labeling to reduce unnecessary ideological tension has merit, but I was trying to focus on your original question to Sean.

10.06.2025 17:09 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Sigh. I'm not strawmanning or putting you into a bucket. I feel like we've had a miscommunication here and you're reading argumentation into my question, when it's just a question. The intention was to sidestep the labeling argument with the express purpose of not having to argue that point with you

10.06.2025 17:09 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Ok, so the issue here is people are labelling the party conservative and you don't like using labels at all.

Are you satisfied that I've answered why /some people are calling them conservative/, even if you don't agree with doing so?

10.06.2025 16:12 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I appreciate the discourse and am committed to keeping it respectful. We've spoken before and I've appreciated your insights on other issues too, so I think this conversation can be/is valuable.

I'm just confused why you seem to be getting defensive about whether this government is conservative?

10.06.2025 13:52 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

You listed Trudeau supporting AN oil pipeline, which kind of makes my point. ONE time he did that, and it got him a lot of flack from without and within. In contrast, Carney is fully embracing it and making big moves.

Yes, it's good strategy, but it's undoubtedly a step to the right.

10.06.2025 13:50 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Carney dropping the carbon tax is a fantastic political stratagem. But to make this move "not conservative", he would have to put up a different policy instead to substantively address the climate reality. He has not made mention of anything like that. Textbook conservatism, more right than before.

10.06.2025 13:50 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I'd argue defending a party (assuming you support the Libs) regardless of their policies is partisanship, not noting the standard definitions where left and right lines are drawn.

To be clear- I'm not saying I hate Carney. It's just a clear step right from the Trudeau gov, arguably beyond centre.
