I’m sorry but “better things aren’t possible we can’t think long term” is an untenable position. This is how we got here.

While safe temporary shelters are useful to some degree - everyone acknowledges that people don’t use them for a variety of reasons: from being unsafe to not meeting people’s needs.

So I agree that the city can’t “solve capitalism” but the prioritization of shelters > social housing is incorrect.

Good reminder that reactionary forces *want* everyone to feel afraid and paranoid to divide people and destroy community solidarity.

Can we please all finally agree that *TEMPORARY* shelters are not the best use of resources if the goal is to house people.

It would be a shame if the efforts of activists to close the ICE facility were undermined by well-meaning but misguided attempts to get council to do something they’re prohibited from doing.

if you’re reading this: if you demand that your councilors make statements or overtures on the land use reconsideration, you are asking them to recuse themselves from the very decision they would need to exercise to do the thing you want them to do

i will note that this is going to continue to be a problem until the conditional use permit comes before council. i can’t say anything about that actual decision because i don’t want to preempt my ability to participate in that process.
