I mean I'm not Australian so I couldn't say. I do think they have a real fanbase and a real legacy, I just think it's hard to spot bc popular dance stuff that doesn't cross over to pop tends to get ignored in most media/crit spaces.

Oh no doubt. But I don't think most people my age realize that there were really *any* new bands this popular at the time, outside of maybe Imagine Dragons and Twenty One Pilots.

Yeah and there's a million different ways to measure popularity these days that don't necessarily intersect or overlap that much. Geese are still legitimately big but in a different and probably ultimately less widespread way.

An incredible write-up from one of the few writers I'd believe could do the song justice. My one quibble is with Tom largely disregarding the video, which — perhaps just due to timing — is full of images that have defined the band for me for nearly 30 years now. (Particularly Liam's domino "HELP.")
