If the Democrats don't blink this is a no win for Republicans. They either use the nuclear option and prove they could have ended this at any time or they take responsibility for keeping the government shut down, since Trump has now screamed that they can and should end it.

I've begun to wonder if perhaps the symptom of higher education refusing to open up pathways for the young to step up isn't a reflection of larger societal trend. Feels like many of our institutions simply have no desire to aid the young as they once did

Turns out they are in fact that up there own ass.

Damn right. We need to seize patriotism back from the fascist and define it and make it so supporting authoritarian movements in any way is anathema to being American.

She wasn't a patriot, she was illegally attempting to breach the chamber of the house with unknown intent while the ballot containers from the states were still being evacuated.

I'm asking you.
Because if you're suggesting it was FBI agents and not INFORMANTS, which is what the reports and internal files show.
It was also not a local protest, people attended from all over the country.
It was also a riot in which people were attempting to overthrow the elective process

A friend of mine noted that rather then being at the start of a authoritarian regime a lot of indicators and situations are much more aligned with the END of one.

Oh they'll go on and on about how we're moving away from classical education well simultaneously refusing to read any of the classics. They exist in their heads as a fantasy that merely confirms their political beliefs.

The entire argument is that we need to bring back tons of manufacturing. The amount of manufacturing they want to bring back which is a reminder is what they think should be the main economic driver now, does not line up with the number of people who would be willing to work in a factory
18.09.2025 19:05 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
Who's going to work on the factory Sean that's the point.
It is absolutely contradictory to say we need increased manufacturing but also we're going to refuse to work in the factories.

Collections: Life, Work, Death and the Peasant, Part IIIb: Children and Childrearing
This is the back half of the third part of our series (I, II, IIIa) discussing the patterns of life for the pre-modern peasants who made up the great majority of humans who lived in the past. Last β¦
This week on the blog: Our look at the structures of life for peasant farmers continues with children and childrearing.
We model some plausible birth patterns for an ancient peasant farming society (Roman Egypt) and think through the implications for daily life.

I can only imagine morale in the military is great given that they're watching people they've served with for years and years and who have busted their asses getting thrown out with no benefits and no retirement despite having earned it and qualifying for it.

Well unfortunately many jobs that require a bachelor's level of education in a specific area are now demanding a master's.
Unfortunately I can't afford not to work long enough to get a masters. Although I do plan to pursue that eventually.

Actually as a follow-up question I'm curious if history degrees have a worse rate for getting jobs in a field directly relating to the degree than something like stem.
Since jobs in history are thin on the ground at the best of times

I would actually go ahead and tell any students you have to come to you and say hey I want to work in the actual historical field to focus on art history. Roughly 75% of the jobs that I see in any sort of museum setting is for art historians.
