I’ll be giving an intensive course on queer studies at Kobe University from January 21 to 23. I’m really looking forward to it, and I’ll do my best to take care of my not-so-strong voice so it lasts through the sessions.

I also analyze patterns of online exclusionary discourse in my book”非二元的な性を生きる”.
Every time a public figure comes out, the posts and reactions become filled with exclusionary takes on nonbinary identities.🥲

Next week in my class, we’ll be looking at the history of activism by people living nonbinary identities in Japan. I want to take the time to talk carefully about why dismissive claims are so problematic, and how people have resisted them over time.

来週の「クィア・スタディーズ」の講義、Xジェンダー/ノンバイナリーなど非二元的な性を生きる人びとの活動史回なので、勘違いだの役割からの逃げだの他者からの排除的なジャッジの問題性と抵抗の歴史を丁寧に話したい。拙著『非二元的な性を生きる』でもオンライン上の排除言説の特徴を論じています。

I’ll be speaking at this event on the theme “Tracing the histories of nonbinary lives and preserving them for the future.”
I’ll talk about the histories and archiving of people living nonbinary genders in Japan, drawing on my own experiences in nonbinary communities. Looking forward to it!

クィア史による、社会科学的な歴史主義への批判にかかわる著作を読むことが増えていて面白いし、その関心を引き継いだ日本のトランス史も読んでみたい(自分で書ける気はしない)。あまり訳されていないが、たとえば数少ない例外である『奔放な生、うつくしい実験』、いま読んでいるけれど翻訳もすばらしい。日本の歴史社会学者は全く読んでなさそう(偏見)。

『エトセトラ』vol.14「特集 SRHR」が発売になりました。
この数年、トランスジェンダーの本を書いたり、翻訳したりしてきました。
2025年になってやっと、SRHR（性と生殖の健康と権利）という、自分がほんらい関心をもってきた領域に正面から取り組む機会を与えていただきました。
「なんでないのプロジェクト」はじめ、SRHRのために人生を懸けてきたアクティビストの福田和子さんとの共同編集です。

宮田さんの博論本、『トランスジェンダーの生活史』刊行記念イベントに参加してきました。
インタビューをすることで、自分の生活史も書けるようになるというのはなるほどと思った。
楽しかったし、まさかの豪華来場者プレゼントがあり、ポストカード全種揃った。あと匿名化に動物名を使っているのが地味に気になっていたので裏話？を聞けて満足した。

Contact: Human Rights Education Research Office Overview: In recent years, topics related to transgender people have frequently appeared on social media, video platforms, and in the news. However, many of these include misinformation, stereotypes, or even content intended to incite discrimination. How can we avoid being misled and access accurate information? We will welcome two representatives from T-Net, a network sharing reliable information about transgender issues, to discuss media literacy as a tool to resist disinformation and transphobia. Speakers: • Aki Nomiya – Active since 1998 as a core member of transgender self-help and support groups. Served as an organizer of the Tokyo Lesbian & Gay Parade and as a board member of Tokyo Pride. Currently teaches part-time university courses on gender and sexuality. • Kanata Kimoto – YouTuber and video creator. Runs the channel Kanataimu. A transgender man who shares stories on LGBTQ+ topics, life with his deaf parents, and everyday moments “to inspire someone, somehow.” About T-Net: T-Net is a volunteer network launched in August 2024 by transgender individuals and allies committed to sharing accurate and inclusive information about transgender issues.

Today I took my seminar students to Pride Center Osaka. It’s such an important space supporting LGBTQ+ communities, and they even welcomed our group of 20+ students. We heard a lot about how they create a safe and welcoming environment, offer support, and run the center. We all learned so much!

Together we'll think about what makes a safe space, how we can work on creating one, and think about concrete action that we can take to create such spaces for our community.

With 25 years leading communications technology, consulting, and event operations for enterprise-level clients across Asia Pacific, Kelly also built Monolith Asia's first inclusion policies as its first openly Queer senior manager. Beyond corporate work, Kelly has spent over 30 years creating events and building communities across music, arts, subcultures, and LGBTQIA+ spaces.

I went to see the movie “The Blue Boy Case” in Umeda today. It was tough to watch because it depicted many forms of discriminatory language and violence against trans people, but I’m glad I watched it.
Afterward, I joined an X-gender meetup and had a peaceful, enjoyable time.

I’m pleased to share that I have obtained eligibility to serve as a thesis advisor (Master’s Program) at the Graduate School of Sociology, Kwansei Gakuin University, and will be able to offer a graduate seminar starting in the 2026 academic year.

Olympic Committee inches toward transgender athlete restrictions ahead of L.A. Games Medical director Dr. Jane Thornton updated IOC members on the initial findings of a working group studying the issue of transgender athletes competing in women's sports.

トランプ（+反ジェンダー運動）のプレッシャーに負けたIOCが五輪スポーツ全体からトランス女性の排除を行う方針であることが報道されている。IOCのスポークスパーソンは、まだ結論は出ていないと述べているが、2026年中には2021年の新フレームワークに代わるものが出される公算が大きい。

これについてコベントリーIOC会長が"we have to protect the female category, first and foremost to ensure fairness（何よりもまず公平性を担保するために女性カテゴリーを守らなければならない）"と述べたことが引用されている。 1/2

On Sunday, December 14, we’ll be holding an international symposium, “Trauma-informed Care for LGBTQ Seniors in Japan and Canada: Transgender and Non-binary Perspectives”, at Kochi University and online!

どんなことがあったのか色んな人に伝えているし、今度の入門書にもマイクロアグレッションの例として書き残しておく。

なんだかんだ知り合いに会うのはいつも楽しみなので、日社に行かないのはほぼ初めてかもしれない。
ただ今回はどうしてもトランス排除的な研究者のことが頭に浮かぶし、歴史社会学系の研究会とかでマイクロアグレッションしてきた人間に遭遇するリスクを下げたいというというのもある。招待されて仕事を頼まれたうえで（それはしっかりこなした）、嫌な思いをさせられるのだからひどい経験だった。

この界隈には悪気はなくてもとんでもなく鈍いシスヘテロでバイナリーな人たちがたくさんいるけれど、自分のふるまいがトランス／ノンバイナリー研究者の参加を萎縮させることが(よく)あることをもっと自覚してもらいたいものだ。

このプラットフォーム、趣旨文にもあるように、トランス排除的な言説にたいして適切な対応がされていない状況で、社会学系の学会などに安心して参加できない人の居場所としてつくられたところがある。

自分も嫌な思いをしたことは多いし、今年の日社（一橋）にもあまり行く気がしないので、もっと楽しそうな大阪のノンバイナリー関連のイベントに行くことにする。
