I'm a teacher of young adults and whenever I'm tempted to treat them like little children I stop and remind myself that I'm not an asshole.

I'm old enough to remember when high school kids would spend the summer picking potatoes or blueberries in Maine, or cucumbers and tobacco here in the Pioneer Valley. It's been several decades since even not-otherwise-employed American teenagers did those jobs.
