Coherent dynamics of thalamic head-direction neurons irrespective of input While the thalamus is known to relay and modulate sensory signals to the cortex, whether it also participates in active computation and intrinsic signal generation remains unresolved. The anterodorsal...

๐ŸšจNew preprint alert!

The thalamus has long been seen as a relay of sensory signals to cortex.
But could it also generate its own structured activity?
Our study explores this question in the head-direction (HD) system.

Some explanation ๐Ÿงต๐Ÿ‘‡ 1/13

Event structure sculpts neural population dynamics in the lateral entorhinal cortex Our experience of the world is a continuous stream of events that must be segmented and organized at multiple timescales. The neural mechanisms underlying this process remain unknown. In this work, we...

Your brain doesnโ€™t just passively track time โณ - it structures it.
In @Science.org we show that activity in ๐Ÿง  memory circuits (LEC) drifts constantly, but makes sharp jumps at key moments, segmenting life into meaningful events. (1/2)

Scientists Just Found A New Alzheimer's Warning Sign A new study suggested that not getting enough REM sleep can be an early warning sign of Alzheimer's disease. Here's what a neurologist wants you to know.

"The researchers discovered that people who took longer to get to the REM stage of sleep were more likely to have biomarkers of Alzheimerโ€™s disease."

Sleep should be sacred, you get the best sleep, apart from the tips in this article, in darkness and silence.

Positions, Oldenburg Lab Join the lab We are looking for curious, motivated, and talented people from all different backgrounds to join our team at all levels.

Not sure if we've hit critical mass here on bsky yet, but the lab is hiring!

We've gotten some good news grants recently, and now have some funded projects that are looking for people to champion them.

All projects use Holographic Optogenetics to study motor systems.

Honeybees understand the concept of zero, or "null set", putting them in the same cognitive class as parrots, dolphins and primates in that regard.

What's more interesting to me is HOW WE CAN KNOW THAT.

The experimental design is what I want to focus on:
