Plugging away at new Sprawlcast. And comics seriesโand more. Excited for The Sprawl's new edition, which kicks off this weekend!
05.02.2026 00:49 โ ๐ 12 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0A bleak day in the news biz. Support local journalism, folks. @sprawlcalgary.bsky.social and @livewirecalgary.bsky.social are out here working hard for Calgarians. It's easy to take local journalism for granted but I urge you: please don't.

Had a dream last night that I took out The Sprawl's Pop-Up Press. Twas a nightmare. Part of the front wheel fell off. I took it into a downtown building (why? dunno) and got stuck in thereโcouldn't get out. Then woke up.
The Pop-Up Press is in hibernation for the winter but will return in spring!
Glad I'm not the only one wondering...

16.01.2026 16:56 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Sorry to see you leave journalismโa big loss for the Ceeb and for Calgary journalism. But this sounds like an exciting step. There are some real upsides to going independent. Congrats!
14.01.2026 17:44 โ ๐ 12 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Ah yes, the ill-fated "pivot to video" that was basically falsified by FB! This time around seems different, in that text (unless highly inflammatory) is penalized. Video catches in a way that text doesn't.
12.01.2026 02:06 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Hope to keep delivering on that! You know you're in trouble (and me) if you click on that link and it's a video of me yammering on
12.01.2026 02:01 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I was going to say - I'm not even sure where one would post transcripts on some of these platforms. But one can do captions
12.01.2026 02:00 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0When it comes to the future of journalism, I have a sense of bewilderment going into 2026. The push is all towards video and yammering on. Kill me now.
12.01.2026 01:48 โ ๐ 27 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 6 ๐ 0As this proceeds it will be interesting to see which councilors start fighting against implementing any recommendations that would limit sprawl (i.e., could impact their developer donors and supporters).
11.01.2026 17:45 โ ๐ 6 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Excellent analysis of Calgary's water pipe mess from @sprawlcalgary.bsky.social (www.sprawlcalgary.com/bearspaw-wat...)
11.01.2026 18:00 โ ๐ 10 ๐ 3 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 1That quote was in the midst of a verrrry long council meeting Wednesday, and when I heard it I thought - well, that's it.
11.01.2026 21:38 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Anytime a growth application comes to council, it has a feeling of inevitability to it (at least to me, an observer). That pressure you're talking about.
11.01.2026 21:37 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Excellent, as always. This crisis has many parents. Councils and Admin are under tremendous pressure to cut costs while adding new growth. Any councillor who cut the maintenance budgets & utility rates was treated like a hero. Also, Provincial funding for Alberta cities has been cut in half.
11.01.2026 16:42 โ ๐ 22 ๐ 6 ๐ฌ 4 ๐ 0Thanks Holly!
11.01.2026 21:35 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Let us not forget the immense pressure from Calgary residents to always lower property taxes and eliminate spending on anything that isn't an apparent necessity. Twinning the Bearspaw feeder without a rupture would certainly get an entire council turfed by an enraged electorate.
