I had been experimenting with an immutable Linux distro on a dev machine and unfortunately the tooling, documentation, and processes are too disruptive and I've retreated back. I love the concept though.

A meme where a chasm labeled "being cool" separates an agender generic silhouette sitting on a side labeled "Idea" from the side labeled "Results" along with a ceramic vase. The second panel shows the chasm suddenly filled with solid material labeled "Being cringe" and the silhouette is jauntily striding across to a golden, sparkly vase on the "Results" side

I feel like this is a useful strategy for confronting fascism that we are seeing play out currently.

The current incarnation of Spicy Clippy we have at work is "agentic" which I've come to understand means it can directly trash all the files on your drive instantaneously. I don't like it.

a woman in a purple dress is standing in front of a table with a umbrella . Alt: Angela Lansbury performing calisthenics on her gorgeous lanai. She's wearing a light purple kaftan cinched at the waist. There is a large umbrella over her, a patio table and large potted palm behind her. The clip is from her video Positive Moves.

What Was at Risk?
On unpatched Docker Desktop for Windows, any container could:

Connect to http://192.168.65.7:2375/ without authentication
Create and start a privileged container
Mount the host C: drive into that container
Gain full access on the Windows host
The control plane was exposed to the workloads it was supposed to isolate.

Why should I write better when a machine can do it for me?
Because actually no one can do it for you, because your voice is unique among all the people on earth. Siri never petted a horse's neck. Alexa has never been ghosted by the captain of the football team. But you have lived, your heart is beating, you have suffered, and you have something important to say. It's a human's job, to use words, and whatever job you give to a machine, that part of your brain goes dark. Maybe it's worth it when it comes to remembering phone numbers and directions, but when that part of your brain that uses words goes dark, that's a vast area that's very close to your soul. Don't let some internet platform convince you that what you have to say and create isn't worthwhile. Words are the echo of your soul. Honing that echo matters.

On Monday, August 4, Denver, Colorado became the next city in the U.S. to eliminate parking minimums! Getting rid of parking minimums will make it easier to build new houses and businesses, and encourage active transportation.

If you, a business, are reliant on an open source project to function it is YOUR responsibility to assess and ensure the health of that project by either contributing to it yourself or by using an alternative if project health cannot be guaranteed.
