New Yorkers, definitely. Gives you lots of bite-sized options (compared to a book) depending on what mood you’re in.

USAID Turmoil Threatens Key Aid Supplies to Gaza, Officials Say Washington has funded roughly a third of the aid sent to the enclave since the war began. With most agency workers set to be put on leave, officials say that those supplies are under threat.

The Trump administration’s efforts to downsize USAID have endangered the funding for food, tents and medical treatment for hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza, according to U.S. officials and workers for humanitarian groups funded by the agency.

Jimmy Carter, 39th president and Nobel Peace Prize winner, dies at 100, his son says The tenacious Southerner was turned out of office after one term. But he had a brilliant post-presidential career as a champion of health, peace and democracy.

Thank you for your service, Jimmy Carter - as President, and as a role model for humility and kindness in public life.

AI friendships claim to cure loneliness. Some are ending in suicide. Researchers have long warned of the dangers of building relationships with chatbots. But millions of people spend hours a day bonding with AI companions.

Well, this is a little concerning...😳

Congress has *got* to get its act together on this soon, but I sadly have little confidence that it will. Regulation is urgently needed to ensure the public is protected and that AI products are developed responsibly.

The breathless rollercoaster ride that was today's events in #SouthKorea reminds me most of that crazy day in 2023 when Yevgeny Prigozhin was leading that column of Wagner mercenaries speeding towards Moscow, only for it to all end ~7 hours after it started.

Isn't it also true, though, that light rail systems often include above-ground station stops on/along the street that would preclude the system from even being able to install fare gates?

I don't know if that's the case in Seattle, but it was something that occurred to me.

They are not definitive violations on their face, no, but one has to believe (in the case of Trudeau) that their discussions amount to negotiations around tariffs, no?

Unless the President-Elect is not considered a private citizen but an actual official? Or that the talks are considered official?

This important post by @dandrezner.bsky.social should serve as a potent reminder to us all of how the weakening of America’s education system - public education and higher education - negatively impacts our national security.

Education needs to be considered a national security issue!

Shah Alam works outside Sotheby’s, shares a basement in the Bronx, and works 12-hour shifts at the fruit stand.

Last Wednesday, he sold a banana that would soon be duct-taped to a wall and auctioned as part of a work of art. When Alam was told the sale price, he began to cry.

71% of Americans believe the economy is rigged against them. They’re not wrong.

1973: Top 1% took home 9% of the income in the US
2023: Top 1% took home 26.5% of the income in the US

Wealth created by millions of people greatly benefits a tiny group of extremely rich people.

** TRUMP THREATENS 25% TARIFFS ON ALL MEXICO IMPORTS

The US imported $476 billion from Mexico last year - more than any other country

A 25 percent tariff on those imports would translate into a roughly $100 billion annual tax β€” or ~$1 trillion over the next decade
