Realised my old covid tests expire today so I'm having a bit of a binge before they're invalid, just doing test after test after test like they're shots, what a rush

Could well have been a cat.

No, I love Chris Packham (he responded to my daughter's request for an autograph with a lovely note that I've framed).

Foxes sometimes get scared off and drop their kills. There are lots of pigeon feathers in my garden too so one's clearly busy in the area. Crow looks a bit chewed. Alternative?

I love this kind of story. Makes me hopeful that all sorts of lost pieces might eventually be rediscovered 😍

Haha, noooo

It's just great to know you're both rooting for me

Yes, but she's Madonna

So this is how I die

Are you offering?

Thank you! Wondering how to get my washing out of the machine without being seen, genuinely contemplating some kind of disguise

My garden is clay, really hard to dig

07.10.2025 08:36 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I was considering this, and suspect a fox is the culprit anyway

What about the harm to my marriage prospects after I'm attacked by crows, Richard, have you thought of that? (Also I now have a Sing a song of sixpence earworm as though things weren't horrifying enough)

07.10.2025 08:35 β€” πŸ‘ 4    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

Tbf I did enjoy those four-and-twenty blackbirds recently

Thanks, I'd rather not curse people's timelines with that, plus it risks the crows seeing me near the corpse 😬

Thanks, without being graphic about it, it's hard to be sure, but I think carrion crow likeliest round here. A raven would be kind of thrilling, I'd probably just go full goth if that were the case!

I can hear flapping outside

But yes, I believe so

07.10.2025 08:06 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I haven't examined it closely

I've closed all the blinds on that side of the house now

Yes don't let them see you go near it. Although UK crows are less gregarious than US crows, from where a lot of crow lore emanates, they still do remember.

07.10.2025 08:00 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Haha, thank you. I'll be crowing when something wonderful happens next week, maybe

07.10.2025 07:58 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Oh this isn't the first dead animal I've had to deal with in my garden, but it's the first whose relatives might avenge its demise

07.10.2025 07:57 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Advice ranges from 'leave it till nightfall' to 'let the Murder take care of it or they'll haunt you for years' excellent, excellent. Feels like positive change will only come about if I adhere to the codes of an ancient ritual, and tbh the change I'd like is there not being a dead crow in my garden

07.10.2025 07:52 β€” πŸ‘ 12    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 3    πŸ“Œ 0

Genuinely concerned that if I get this wrong they will come for me somehow. I already worry that the magpies who favour my bird bath will turn on me if I forget to fill it. Corvids, man

Chris Packham never mentions this side of things when he posts his fox of the day, does he? (Really sorry if you're having breakfast btw)

07.10.2025 07:27 β€” πŸ‘ 5    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

There's a dead crow in my garden and I've found a surprising amount on the internet about this; not the evil omen I'd assumed, it apparently heralds positive change. But there's also stuff about crow funerals and am now wondering whether I have to wait for them to mourn before binning it. Fun times!
