Foundations for the future - News
A new report from City & Guilds reveals that critical skills shortages in the construction sector are putting the Governmentβs pledge to build 1.5 million new homes at serious risk.
An interesting report out today by City & Guilds. A gentle reminder:
-Investment in 16-18 education is currently ~10% less in real-terms vs 2010.
-For adult education the figure is ~40%
-Employer investment in skills is at a 20-year low.

βIf we asked teachers to build a rocket from scratch, weβd expect them to need time, scaffolding and plenty of support. Yet teaching itself is a complex, high-stakes task, and we often expect people to just βpick it upβ during CPD sessions or one-off briefingsβ

Graphic reads "AoC responds to IFS annual report on education spending. If the goverment wants to deliver 1.5 million new homes, boost economic growth and improve the NHS, it needs to fund more adults as young people to learn new skills in colleges. David Hughes, Chief Executive."
βExpecting colleges to do more with the same money is simply unsustainable and limits the support they can give.β - David Hughes, AoC Chief Executive.
