Well I'm not even an American citizen, but I think you've got that calculation the wrong way round. It's not the job of the electorate to be be guilted by...someone...to vote for someone they don't want to vote for. Its the job of the candidate to convince them - Harris chose not to.

Honestly can't think of anything your average Reform hardliner would dislike about Saddam other than his intermittent attacks on Israel.

Not to mention plenty of Iraqis, including those who suffered under Saddam, who now idealise his period as one where the rule of law was enforced for ordinary people - compared to what the country's been like for the last two decades.

I saw some on the other place say effectively "how can Zahawi say London is unsafe when he grew up under Saddam Hussein" which I think kind of misses the point - there are probably quite a few people in the UK who'd quite like a Saddamist approach to law and order.
