Some people also like to throw around the idea the bike lanes are ableist not fully understanding the spectrum of disability. Bikes are actually a form of mobility for some PWD and bike lanes further support that mobility. Drives me bonkers when ppl assume bikes are just for non disabled

ANALYSIS | Alberta minister threatens to axe bike lanes. Can he make his case? | CBC News Province claims urban bike lanes worsen congestion. Ontario said the same thing โ€” then a judge found they lacked evidence to back up their point.

"Dreeshen is incorrect that it's two vs 98 per cent, as the non-cycling total also includes transit users and people walking into downtown; automobile drivers and passengers account for 59 per cent of downtown visits, according to city statistics."

All of this. It's technically designated as a main street and I've been advocating on city committees that it should be prioritized for a main street glow-up. If I remember correctly, it's one of the most rapidly developing corridors, currently without city investment. Currently a car sewer...

Widen those sidewalks! Continue the bike lane up the hill. Make it into the main street it's designated as!

This is very cool wayfinding design. Question(s) for you:
1. Do they also display landmarks somehow? Ie zoo's, tourist destinations etc?
2. This setup seems excellent for inter-city travel. Given the love of signs and lacking street design, would those signs get 'lost' and difficult to follow?

And tell your local politicians (and candidates, of close to an election) what parts of the ride are dangerous! Prioritizing safe routes to school is absolutely critical and action has been too slow.

If this was at risk of damaging the public tree canopy, there could have been discussions about alternatives, options to prevent damage etc.

We need to be better at looking at the full picture and the risks and benefits before acting.

Calgary homeowner calls city's removal of tree swing 'a sad day for outdoor play' | CBC News A tree swing belonging to a family in the northwest Calgary community of West Hillhurst has been taken down by the city, which cited tree protection bylaws. Homeowner Nuvyn Peters says it's a poor use...

It's frustrating to see community initiatives like a tree swing (or benches) removed by the city without meaningful discussion about why.

Community-led/grassroots place making is so important to making vibrant communities and is too often stymied. #yyccc www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
