How else do you expect the engineer who wrote it to get a good performance review or promotion? This way they can say they built a feature that "increases user engagement"! XD

I had a similar reaction yesterday when I saw the Donut (Slack) app tell me I had points to spend. Mind you, cute dinosaur.

I’m gonna come out and say it: Vancouver is having a spectacular fall.

- Minimal rain
- But also nice CRISP temperatures, puts us in the season
- Summer not too hot, so trees kept their leaves, creating full cover for nice colours
- No elections or giant weather events to distract from joy

10/10

While I know there are more important things happening in the world (heck, even in my personal life), I have to say: I'm disappointed that the A&W (Canada) coupon booklet no longer has onion rings. There was just no other reason for me to go there.

The Secret to Vancouver’s Public Transit Ridership Recovery The Canadian city’s transit agency, TransLink, bounced back from Covid even as other North American systems have struggled. Its leader explains why riders returned.

The head of Vancouver’s transit agency can sum its ridership recovery in one word: Frequency.

β€œRunning the bus every 30 minutes isn’t going to cut it if you want to grow ridership.β€œ

Many Vancouver 🚌 run every 5min or less, and the SkyTrain runs every 3-4min, via @davidzipper.bsky.social

It’s hard to believe, but Sea Otter Awareness Week is over… β€˜til next year! Otters get their own week in September because they’re the real MVPs (Most Voracious Predators) of the kelp forest. As a keystone species, they maintain the balance of the ecosystem by eating! Learn more: mbayaq.co/3IPiaE5

Opinion: B.C. has a revenue problem, not a spending problem Experience from early 2000s shows that underfunding public services and failing to address poverty leads to higher economic and social costs

Everyone's talking about BC's "spending problem" but here's what they're not telling you: we're spending the SAME share of GDP as 1998, but collecting far less revenue. BC's deficit isn't about overspending. My analysis: vancouversun.com/opinion/op-e...

So he wants to create a Crown corporation to get rid of governance expenses. But here are Metro's expenses. Government stuff = <1% of all costs. You miiiiiiight get 2% of cost savings, once you get rid of all the planning stuff. Maybe.

Super annoyed at the moment that I only got a notice today that there’s a strike. pay your musicians better!

Vancouver hotels are really expensive and even more so this year, plus flight prices have gone up with < 2 days notice, everything is non-refundable, even our restaurant reservation!
