Relevant fact: half of the City of Atlanta still doesn't have sidewalks.

Residents overwhelmingly passed a referendum to fund infrastructure improvements, but only 10% of that money has been spent in three years, mostly in white and wealthy neighborhoods

Eastside Beltline light rail work secretly halted last year A group made up of officials with the city of Atlanta, the Beltline and MARTA made the decision in a closed-door meeting without ever informing the public.

Unbeknownst to the public, a small group of officials from the city of Atlanta, the Atlanta Beltline and MARTA voted to stop all work on the Eastside Beltline light rail project more than six months ago: www.ajc.com/news/2026/01...

1. Thread: Why America fails to build public infrastructure cost effectively.

High Costs Are Not an Engineering Problem
They Are a Political–Fiscal Design Problem

Countries like Sweden and Germany do not build transit cheaply because they have better engineers per se. They build cheaply because:

Currently in Paris with my kiddo and loving it! We’ve metro’d, bused, walked. Only issue is the complete lack of bike rentals for parents! We walked a million miles and were totally exhausted. Drooled over the ubiquitous ebike rentals but felt completely forgotten as a parent of a young kid.

I never want to see another human trot across a crosswalk, hurry their stroller/kids/mobility device or rush a senior resident through an intersection or any road.
It’s ridiculous, like we’ve been gifted some incredible act of patience from those driving.

If you're like why would they do this? Because the goal is to privatize weather forecasts. They've been really clear about this. It won't work and a lot of people will die. But some other people might get rich so

Also wish they didn’t clear cut each new segment. At least parts of the Eastside trial have regrown trees but South/Southwest is terrrrrrible.

Deaths by Transportation Mode - Injury Facts Overall, passenger transportation incidents account for about one out of seven preventable injury-related deaths.

Still many times higher than the rate for bus or rail travel. Whether you’re on the absolute or relative scale, cars are more dangerous than any other form of motorized transportation. injuryfacts.nsc.org/home-and-com...

Just 1% of active voters in Georgia (74,464 people) voted early in the primary for Public Service Commission, despite an overwhelming majority supporting climate-smart policies, such as energy efficiency subsidies and the adoption of clean energy.
