I coded Commodore 64 games in the 1980s, 1990s and the 2020s. And plenty of other stuff in between.

I don't know who drew the covers for my #c64 games. I have a special fondness for the APB one though, it's nice and colourful.

Never heard of Landlord Dark. One of my first pints in a pub was Landlord and I've loved cask ever since. I'll still buy a pint if it's on somewhere. That was in the Queen's Arms behind Cheetham Hill Road in Manchester. It was a lovely pub in the 80s. Since shut down after a machete attack I read.

This article mentions Graham's washing machine. He gave me that when ours broke down. Years later we passed it on to somebody else. It must have been 30 years old before it gave up the ghost.

It makes the game much more user friendly. And it allowed Chun to design levels with rewind in mind. You can play them bit by bit. Occasionally people don't rewind enough and get stuck for an age. Level 45 is a good example of this. Your very first move can get you into an unwinnable situation.

"Don't Look Back" challenge. If this is not being able to use rewind it's going to be tough!

Design Design here, predicting the current AI fixation in this article from 40 years ago. The game they're talking about is 2112AD, I should perhaps give it another look.

We came through the other day. About 50 minutes from landing to out. Taxiing to the stand takes while. The walk to passport control is far but (UK citizen) it's often quite quick to get through. The luggage is always the hold-up in my experience, I've waited over an hour for cases in the past.

I was pretty pleased with my Craptastic 2024 4kb #C64 game. A lot of the other entries were also excellent. Iโ€™ve no idea what happened with the results though @ausretrogamer.bsky.social

Thanks. This is the one at Arcade Club. Fun game and even included Nancy. Good job itโ€™s free play at AC though, itโ€™d take some money otherwise.

Is this a home sequel rather than an arcade conversion? Pretty sure they have Chase HQ 2 at Arcade Club in Bury and itโ€™s a really great PS1 era 3D game.

Smashing. Think they need to hit rewind there, theyโ€™re stuck.

This updated photo of the Mastermind game box couple will be everything for people of a certain age Well this brings back the memories. And is another reminder, like we needed it, of the passing of time. And, oh, the fact we never really did understand how to play it. The MasterMind game box people ...

Doing some Spectrum Next myself. Iโ€™d forgotten Iโ€™d done some Z80 in the past and itโ€™s amazing how much I remember. Especially as I donโ€™t recall what I had for breakfast.

One of the early things I saw on the internet was a picture of those two in a โ€™how they look nowโ€™ style things. Clickbait nowadays but fascinated me then.

My first job was at Walking Circles, the dev studio which came out of the remains of Design Design. This reads like a fever dream but from the stories I was told I think it's all mainly true. It was much more your standard 9-5 office by the time I joined in 1987.

Wanderer on the #C64! It's the only game I coded for them and had my worst Zzap64 review: "...a vector graphics turkey". Genuine answers is Buggy Boy, just a really nice playable racer.

Simon left game dev in the 80s but kept the name Design Design. The rest became Walking Circles which I joined in 1987. We had loads of stuff from the DD days. We had TTM posters but no cassettes. I guess it was abandoned when Simon left and I have vague memories of being told that at the time.

Yeah, it was sad binning all those tapes but as Walking Circles we moved to much smaller offices. We had a spare room in the old office with loads of boxes of old games. All got skipped. We jumped about on the skip a bit but lots of our games still ended up on Bury Market the following Saturday!

Coded by my old boss Graham Stafford. Not his finest game and one of the many tapes we threw in a skip when moving offices. Taking Tiger Mountain was Simon Brattel's follow up to Tank Busters but it was never completed. Not even sure it was started. Any ideas @gamesthatwerent.com?

I think APB is my only #C64 game which appeared on a compilation. I was never informed of this stuff happening. And I certainly never got a free copy of this compilation.

I always wanted to do a pub quiz round with snippets of SID covers of pop hits. By their very nature it would be an 80s round though.

I converted the game to Unity but couldnโ€™t get a publishing deal from Nintendo. Thalamus stepped in and did the extra dev work regards controls etc. and published it.

I was lucky enough to develop all my C64 games on a PC using PDS (Programmer's Development System). I had an Amstrad PC with a 10MB HDD. Powerful stuff.

There quite a bit of info on PDS here:

An old three and one quarter inch floppy disk labelled with C64 source files

An old three and one quarter inch floppy disk labelled with C64 source files

This 720kb disk is my original backup of all the code and graphics for my first four #C64 games, plus the unreleased game Behemoth. The code includes self written tools like map editors. I think the icon on my last iOS game was larger than 720k on its own. My handwriting is as bad 35 years later.

Nice, tell your brother thanks. I once found a video of somebody playing my Game Gear Winter Olympics game. He said it was his favourite childhood game which I liked the thought of.
