I’m procrastinating so hard on answering an email that I just scheduled a dentist appointment for the first time in two years

I place a lot of value on my friendships, but being single has literally made it harder for me to access health care.

When my friends bring up something overtly political, I often want to scream at them even when I agree with them. Because I’ve already seen the same thing said 5,000 times on social media. But of course it’s not my friends’ fault that I spend too much time on social media!

This is so interesting bc I often hear English speakers say “we” to their customers / students / patients when they clearly mean “you.” Like a voice teacher said “I’m hearing our vocal cords not coming together all the way,” when the student was the only one singing.

When I finish a book, I’m not necessarily thinking about whether I’ll read it again, I’m just thinking about whether I loved it. If I loved a book, I am theoretically willing to reread it someday, but in practice I almost always prioritize books I’ve never read before.

I’m agnostic on whether kids should learn cursive, please don’t do discourse about that in my replies! Also don’t @ me to say I can’t call Anne Lister a lesbian because she didn’t call herself a lesbian, believe me I am well aware of the thorniness of sexual orientation labels

I *did* learn cursive in school and her handwriting was still hard to read. So my takeaway is that if you want to read old manuscripts, you may need specialized training and/or a lot of patience, regardless of what the K-12 curriculum includes.

I once tried to transcribe Anne Lister’s diaries—she was a 19th c. lesbian who wrote partly in a substitution cypher so she could safely write about her sexuality. I taught myself the cypher but then gave up transcribing because her handwriting in regular English orthography was too hard to read.

I’m so sad to hear of Andrea Gibson’s death. This poem is my favorite of theirs.

But wouldn’t the state still need to acquire eggs somehow? So you’d still need women to choose to go through an invasive procedure.

The problem is students aren’t simultaneously folding laundry while in lecture. I don’t know anyone who just sits and listens to a podcast all the way through while doing nothing else.

I’m impressed that Stanford even semi-fired his wife, because she’s an Arrillaga. There’s so many things at Stanford named after the Arrillaga family that it might as well be named Arrillaga University. I’d have thought she’d be untouchable. I’m glad to see she’s not, at least not entirely.

I personally have found Tumblr to be pretty cool these days. The user interface is a lot better than it used to be, and the culture has improved too IMO, perhaps due to the user base growing up and chilling out.
