Living it large in Livingston today
20.02.2026 14:04 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I find most the the locals in St Andrews are rather more friendly, less confrontational, than these two.

There are quite some cuttlebones washed up on this beach in St Andrews today.

Today would have been my grandad's 128th birthday
Sadly he died more than 40 years ago.
A wonderful man.
I wish my children could have known him.
A fine display of sausages and puddings at Balgove Larder, who get my vote for Scottish Butcher of the Year in the Countryside Alliance awards.

This was up in the Perthshire hills, where I would imagine the air is pretty good.
I was reminded of Spanish Moss from the southern USA, although of course it is very different.
Some of the trees here in #Perthshire are thick with this moss, as if it is of the tree.
Is it harmful to the host tree, do you know?

Queen's View near Killikrankie, on a beautiful February day. Looking west.

Plenty of water in the Black Spout at Pitlochry.

Not news, but most certainly stands repeating.

Serenity.
Late afternoon in Pitlochry.

On a wee break to #Perthshire. Here I am at Blair Castle, Blair Atholl.
It was a lot colder than it looks!

I took the bus. In recognition of my great age, they let me use it for free ๐

11.02.2026 11:07 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Exciting to be at an airport; I haven't flown anywhere for almost three years. Not today either, just dropping off.
Still exciting, though.
A useful footnote by Chris Grey in "A very short, fairly interesting and reasonably cheap book about studying organisations". (2nd ed. 2009)
Worth bearing in mind when coming across any postings from, or quoting, the Daily Mail.
Understand everything they say in this context.

05.02.2026 13:22 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I was struck by these figures (witches?) flying through the air, including dome sort of wild boar, in Lucas Cranach's 16 century painting 'An Allegory of Melancholy' in Scotland's National Gallery.

Visiting Scotland's National Gallery today. Here's a painting I have admired in reproduction since childhood. Great to see the real thing. 'The Monarch of the Glen' by Sir Edwin Landseer.

Strangely, although it was rather chilly and breezy it didn't feel very stormy in Anstruther today. I wonder what the waves are like when it does!

Now that's a decent spread for two!
