No argument here! My example was very specific. e.g., in a typical pre- & post-test battery for a squad of athletes, testing might include strength, power, speed endurance etc. Cohen provides a tool to compare relative changes of tests measured by different scales/units

I mostly agree with your initial statement, and I can’t remember using d, g or similar since becoming an Epi/stats person.

I completely agree there are better measures in most cases, but as a former Exercise Scientist/Coach, sometimes Cohen’s d (or Glass/Hedge’s ….) is the best tool available ;-)

So how do you compare relative improvements in different physical performance tests, which are measured in different units, and % change is not comparable? Cohen’s d and similar measures have their place…..
