@mikeconnollyma.bsky.social is our OG democratic socialist state rep, and his leadership continues to pave the way for a rising cadre of bold leftist leaders changing the status quo on Beacon Hill. I am so grateful for his support in our race for Cambridge City Council.

Incredible weekend campaigning for @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social and the affordability agenda. Thank you, Zohran, for building the movement to make buses fast and free, to win universal childcare and a rent freeze β€” and for being a nice guy. Clean Elections are at the core of our vision for leftist politics β€” so I was excited to testify this week before the Joint Committee on Election Laws in support of legislation I filed to allow for public financing of municipal elections. Thank you @votejivan.bsky.social for working with me on this.

Tonight at 7 pm, MassDOT will host a virtual design public hearing to review the plans for the Mystic River Bicycle Pedestrian Bridge. I am very proud of the work we’ve done with my local colleagues to advocate for state funding to construct this bridge with a newly-designed 18-foot width.

In this moment where human rights organizations have concluded that Isreal is committing genocide in Palestine, hundreds of Somerville residents took to the streets this summer to gather over 11,000 signatures to put a non-binding advisory question on the November 4, 2025 municipal ballot.

I have long stood for the principle that the freedom to criticize governments must be protected, and that criticism of the Israeli government is not inherently antisemitic.

As State Representative, I have long stood for the principle that the freedom to criticize any and all governments must be protected, and that criticism of the Israeli government is not inherently antisemitic, and that all residents should be free to engage in various legitimate political actions that seek to change government policies, both at home and abroad.

In this moment where a broad array of human rights organizations and global leaders have concluded that Isreal is committing genocide in Palestine, hundreds of Somerville residents took to the streets this summer to gather over 11,000 signatures to put a non-binding advisory question on the November 4, 2025 municipal ballot. In so doing, these activists have drawn inspiration from past efforts, such as the movement that worked to end apartheid in South Africa.

Now, a new group, β€œSomerville United Against Discrimination,” has emerged and is seeking to throw the Palestine Solidarity question off the ballot. None of the arguments in opposition to allowing the question to be placed on the ballot make sense. Somerville for Palestine collected more than enough signatures in accordance with the law, and while voters are free to consider various arguments in support or opposition to the ballot question β€” it is wrong to claim the ballot question itself is discriminatory. Therefore, I respectfully urge the Board of Election Commissioners to overrule these anti-democratic objections and to place the question on the ballot today.
