Alt text added. When I’m teaching my students about transcription, I note that it’s usual to remove verbal clutter and when it’s left in, it’s often a sign that the writer wants you to regard the speaker with disrespect. Not great!

Green A4 poster titled "Pacing: getting the best out of life with limited energy". with 10 practical tips for pacing and getting the best out of life. Along the top it says: "Swap before you drop: Be honest about your limits and committed to making good decisions. This can help you achieve more and feel better in the long term." "Don’t soldier on: Being able to pretend you are okay doesn’t make carrying on a good idea." "Avoid if possible: Reaching ‘splat’ too often makes things worse. Save the splat for special occasions." - above a series of 7 ever more exhausted stickmen - the final one has faceplanted on the floor.

A college student withdrew from consideration for a reporting role in our newsroom this week because of how we use artificial intelligence.
It reminded me again how college journalism programs are failing to prepare students for the workforce. I mentioned this in a column before, and readers asked me to explain
A conscientious journalism grad withdraw from a job when she learned the Cleveland Plain Dealer uses AI to write its stories.
Now the editor is castigating her and journalism professors for not being “prepared for the workforce.”

Donald Trump prompts global surge in people viewing US as a threat
Poll for Munich Security Conference shows sharp rise in Canadians and others perceiving peril from Washington
"In several countries — including South Africa, India, Italy and Canada — China is viewed as less of a threat than a year ago.
More Indians now regard China as an ally than a threat, a remarkable change given the history of border clashes between the two Asian giants."

90% of people don't give a fuck about politics, they just want to raise a family and watch sports and live their lives in peace
But when you terminally fuck with their ability to do that in a direct and obvious way, they get VERY UPSET, and that is how revolutions historically happen
