In the last three days, my family and I have gone skating at three different public outdoor ice rinks/skating paths in the greater Moncton area.

All three were in really good condition, all three were totally free, all three were a blast.

I love thoughtful community spaces.

As a parent trying to help 3 middle school kids with homework, I miss textbooks so much.

I never know how my kids are being taught - all I see are the math questions they have as homework. I have to google the question and re-teach the topic to myself in order to help.

Short track speed skating is like track and field sprinting… except with slipping and falling.

Truly makes it a much more exciting sport to watch.

There’s a little boy (3?) travelling on the train I’m on with his mom. I overheard the mom tell the attendant that it’s his birthday and today is his first ride on the train.

They’re getting ready to get off and he exclaims: “I want to stay on the train forever!”

I believe only the corridor trains have assigned seating (but could be wrong!). The ocean line for sure does not have assigned seating.

Yea the bus to the north end is crazy long. Ridiculous for how quick it is to do that drive in a car.

Agreed. My parents live in a good part of Moncton, relatively central to everything. But there aren’t many safe ways to get from where they live to downtown (or anywhere else), unless you’re in a car. I’m hoping that the tides are turning.

Yup, I spent most of my childhood in Riverview, living on the same street as the Byron Dobson.

I walked to school, walked to the mall (when that was a thing), walked to the movies, walked to the store for penny candies. Sometimes we’d even walk to Sobeys!

The Moncton Vision Lands plan is quite exciting, but very interesting that they’re obviously trying to build a 15-minute community, but are being very careful not to use those words.

Seat assignments are not a thing on some of the regional lines which is frustrating because then you feel increased pressure to be first in line and rush to get a ‘good’ seat.

I wish they’d send decision-makers on an international trip to try out other trains & see how much better things could be.

I love having call screening on bit every time my 11yo calls me from school he always stresses and tries to fit his whole message in the screening part. 😂

The fact that I can hop on a train after supper (from a station 10 min from my house) and be in Montreal the next morning makes me want to go to Montreal all the time.

Unfortunately my wallet and my PTO balance both refuse to accommodate my desires.

Washington, DC plows roads but not sidewalks, and then tells pedestrians not to walk on the road.

One of the things about people showing up to protest for the first time, that many, many armchair theorists don't grasp, is the effect of seeing what happens with your own eyes, then seeing how media covers it, and what is said ABOUT YOU by media and political personalities/office holders.

I truly think my children and their peers have been very unlucky in their schooling:

- they were (not) taught to read using three-cueing
- their school years were disrupted multiple times for a pandemic & strikes
- they’re being encouraged to use AI to support learning before it’s well understood.

My city, the one with the lowest density in my province and where all citizens complain about the property tax they have to pay, recently turned down the same money for the same reason.

Make it make sense.

Earlier this week the province shut down one lane of the centennial bridge so they could (finally) clear the sidewalk of snow.

Then they used a residential snowblower and shovels for part of the work. And when they were done, they replowed the road and put the excess snow back on the sidewalk.

Oh I love the barn! We’ve been collecting the holiday sets for 5 or so years but haven’t put them together in a cohesive village yet. Here are some of the ones we have.

We really just got into MOCs this fall, but added half a dozen or so to the Christmas collection this year!

The bike shop is a MOC set. Bought the plans from rebrickable and cobbled all the parts together to give it to my husband as his Lego Christmas gift.
