I feel like there should have been a dividing line somewhere between Arizona and like Idaho, tho. Just one big โ€œwestโ€ region seems unhelpful at best.

The good news is that apple just did the same thing too

The Dark Star Trek section of the game is so fun.

This. I hate that weโ€™ve adopted their marketing terms. Iโ€™m not 100% sure LLMs will be a complete boondoggle, but this doesnโ€™t look like that.

The single most damaging thing to our โ€œlethalityโ€ was drumming trans service members out of the service. Even if they had simply stopped allowing enlistment/conscription, it would have been preferable to breaking the compact to our comrades-in-arms who kept the faith.

Look, thereโ€™s nothing inherently wrong with Mastodon, but if youโ€™re going there to escape moderation problems, uh

The average caveman spent less than thirty five seconds selecting a rock for combat, wheras intercontinental ballistic missile programs often fail to produce results after days, weeks, or even months.

tbf to Fury, a lot of US tankers at the time believed myths like that about the tiger specifically, mainly because they hardly ever actually saw one.

I've always thought it was a good *design* but it wasn't until the late war that they were able to get their manufacturing to a level it could make a reliable tank out of it.

we didn't like the aircobra because the driveshaft was a maintenance nightmare, but the soviet pilots loved getting them in lend-lease because it could out turn almost anything thanks to that extra torque, and their attrition was so high they didn't care as much about servicability.

Not to mention the p-40 warhawk, an *interwar* fighter that was so good it still operated with upgrades in the China theater until almost the end of the war.

06.10.2025 15:58 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 10    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Also the p-51 tends to overshadow the p-47, which was possibly the best all-round fighter of the early/mid war. It was kinda ugly, i guess, but that's part of why i love it.

06.10.2025 15:56 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 15    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

and considering it was initially designed as a medium scout tank, its ability to field across the entire european theater in almost every tank role shows that at the very least it had good fundamentals to its design.

06.10.2025 15:54 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 21    ๐Ÿ” 1    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

It doesnโ€™t even look like an early p-51! It looks like the marinesโ€™ buffalo lol

05.10.2025 19:42 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I have questions about that p-51 tho

I mean i'm just an NCO, but I did go out of my way to find out what my responsibilities are under the UCMJ. There's no carve out for rank, but there are processes under regulations to adjudicate illegal orders.

I'm not against prosecuting them, I just think it's a plausible defense.

I'm not a lawyer; at some point I have to take a lawyer's word for some of these things.

03.10.2025 18:19 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

if you go to legal and say "i think this order is illegal" and they say, "no it's good fam, here's the legal justification from COCOM's legal office" i don't think it's unreasonable to at least be able to present that as a defense.

03.10.2025 18:15 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

If you do some form of due diligence to verify the legality of orders that seem wrong to you, that should at least be some form of colorable defense imo.

03.10.2025 18:10 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

They should at the very least be concerned about it.
