Justice is an end-point.

Revenge doesn't have true resolution, when it is enacted it is only a temporary resolution because it can always be reciprocated. This is why it is an endless cycle. Revenge is regenerative in the worst sense.

This morning there are birds singing and part of the sky is not black but darkest grey. It isn't spring. But it is the promise of it.

This is why revenge stories are always unsatisfactory in some way at the end. In the case of
1. There is an emptiness because justice can never be satisfied — the supposed redemption is false, it is an inferior replacement. TRAGEDY
2. Everything is out of proportion. Senseless. Meaningless. HORROR

Trope notes
1. Revenge is for those who cannot have justice. It is a poor consolation prize, and a tragedy.
2. Revenge is for those with an inflated ego, a desire to punish those who threaten the fragile self. They desire revenge because there is no real requirement for justice. Imbalanced scales.
