I studied philosophy too. I wanted to engage with something more logically consistent than English literature, but less detail-bound than history (although I studied history too). I don’t regret the choice either. It’s definitely good for your writing and thinking!

You’re missing the big picture. It’s just an excuse not to do anything else to fix the roads. It’s like trying to fix bus transportation by making ethnic minorities give up their seats for white folks.

I wear a helmet if I’m riding a road bike, especially in hilly terrain (like Cymru). I do not wear a helmet while riding a few minutes to the shop. Why should I? It’s no different from walking?

Maybe YOU shouldn’t be riding a bicycle, but why use that as an argument to inconvenience and disincentivise urban bicycle usage?

Many congratulations to Sabine. My daughters cycle to secondary school, and the most important thing for us has been the closure of Hammersmith Bridge to motor traffic, which has created a safer, quieter route for the majority of the journey.

Rode home down Kensington High Street today (again) in rush hour. Very dangerous and stressful. There should have been a protected cycle lane there but the council ripped it out. There’s your problem in West London.

Please don’t forget about cycling when considering Oxford Street plans. Some of us have to get from the south-west to Centre Point, and it’s bad enough having to deal with the scrum on High Street Kensington (no protected infra) already.
