Cycling journeys up by 43% in London, TfL report suggests
Cycling journeys have increased to more than 1.5 million daily this year, according to a new report.
There are now 1.5 million daily cycle journeys in London, a 43% increase since 2019

And hopefully some of these trips have been made safer by the Safe Cycling in London Map (bit.ly/378amr0), which has now been viewed over 1.25 million times!

Screenshot of a LinkedIn comment from Phil Jones that says: " I understand Welsh Government is using a hack suggested - where the existing exemption from having beacons and zig zags where zebras cross cycle tracks is extended to side roads. Got that? :-) I'm hoping it will also give us simple side road parallels at the same time!"
The word from @phil-pja.bsky.social is that the part of TSRGD which permits zebras across cycle tracks without Belisha beacons and zigzags is simply being extended to side roads. Easy! UK Department for Transport, take note.

Our trial in Westminster was quoted alongside the Cardiff and Manchester trials in the Welsh government announcement. It has seen proper yielding to pedestrians jump from 40% to 80%.
Ireland changed rules around zebra crossings to make them easier to install on side and main roads.

Yesterday the Welsh government announced backing to councils to use simple zebras at side roads in 20mph streets. I'm proud that Westminster City Council and I could play a role in this progress through our successful trial of side road zebras.
Will England be next...?

Have to take a moment to celebrate this historic win for the climate. Even though everyone knows itโs needed, itโs no small thing to commit to leaving fossil fuels in the ground.
Epic work from the likes of Uplift and a Secretary of State who is doing the absolute best he can with what heโs got.

Chart showing bills savings from the Budget changes:
- Low users save ยฃ103
- Medium users save ยฃ133
- High users save ยฃ201
- Heat pump users save ยฃ207
- Storage heater users save ยฃ250
All of the savings are mostly electricity, only a bit gas
Here's what we think the Budget means for some different types of household.
In short: good for everyone, but especially good for households that use electric heating.

This isn't just an excellent piece of transport analysis. It's a love letter. Who could write so thoroughly and thoughtfully other than someone who loves the place they live in, the place they move around, and loves the people they travel alongside? Would that all politicians involved could match it

Absolutely magical gig by Tina Carr at the Puppet Theatre Barge. Thereโs nothing quite like a small venue. Also I love that a) thereโs a childrenโs puppet theatre on a narrow boat in London and b) they also do music for adults in the evenings. Thatโs why cities rock.

1. In the wake on Mamdaniโs win, weโll see a lot more far right anti-urban sentiment. Hereโs a thread on its roots and evolution.
The idea that the city is evil and corrupt, and the countryside innocent and pure, goes back a long way: to Theocritus in Alexandria, and to the Old Testament. ๐งต

Minority representation on TV causes outrage
There has been widespread support for prominent Reform MP
Sarah Pochin after she complained about the over-representation of minorities on television.
Said one angry viewer, "She's right. Every time you turn on the telly there's another Reform MP being interviewed by Laura Kuenssberg."
She added, "I respect their way of life and their strange customs, but Reform MPs comprise only 0.7 percent of the House of Commons. Yet Nigel Farage is on Question Time more than Fiona Bruce."
"I'm not prejudiced. Some of my best friends are swivel-eyed loons, but enough is enough.
There are too many people with angry red faces on television.โ
Gotta love Private Eye.
Always cuts through the crap.

Clocks changing for winter is sometimes thought to be better for children having light to go to school in the mornings.
Perhaps it would be more valuable to keep better light in evenings. Children donโt just go straight to and from school. They play and get injured by traffic after school.
