When voters vote for someone I like, they are noble savages. When they don’t, they are irrational hogs to be herded

Logan just read this one and it seemed like a good crash course in modern chinese history. Real doorstopper though, but seemed worthwhile www.hup.harvard.edu/books/978067...

Logan has quit playing and then angrily started playing again several times. I hear him grumble and swear for hours

A lot of people being angry about Trump making the White House look ugly which is wild to me because I can’t imagine caring about or respecting the White House enough to give a shit about its aesthetics. We’re a bad country and we deserve to have an ugly, tacky building represent us. It’s funny!

Also obligatory plug for the Terra Ignota series, which is not what I described above but is absolutely brilliant and one of the best modern works of sf imo

One of my favorite genres in sf is β€œthe universe and time are too big and dark and it makes me want to kill myself” and my favorites in that regard are Aniara (which has a great film adaptation), Three Body Problem trilogy, Tau Zero, Aurora

In fairness he finished it when he was 32, which is still four years younger than me πŸ₯² Thank you for appreciating my incessant Moby Dick posting! It won’t get out of my head!

This is an obvious moneys paw situation. Think about it. A really young guy somehow writing the greatest novel in the English language. But it’s a monkeys paw wish, so the twist is that everyone hates it and it ruins his life

Just realized Melville was 31 when he wrote the greatest novel in the English language πŸ™ƒ

I want Ishmael’s whale measurements tattoo so so so bad but I can’t even picture what it would look like and I don’t think I can make a tattoo artist read several hundred pages of whale facts in order to design one for me

Reading Moby Dick is like a 4D experience because, just like Ishmael, I now can’t shut the fuck up about whales and whaling

Thinking about how Herman Melville didn’t know about whale songs and I’m so upset about this that I need to dig him up and make him write a new chapter
