Starting this Friday, four separate #JWST programmes will be exploring physical processes in Jupiter's atmosphere and ionosphere. We're asking amateur astronomers to help provide context imaging over the next few weeks to understand how the atmosphere is changing with time. #planetaryscience

Here are the results of my S50 first light. Mediocre conditions, I would've struggled visually. Both images stacked on the comet.

My first #SolarCan experiment! The Solar Can was mounted on a pole in our garden and left for 368 days, where photo paper was being exposed to the Sun via a pinhole. The paper was removed, scanned, inverted and processed to give this final image.

Messier 45 (M45), famously known as the Pleiades or the Seven Sisters, is a bright open star cluster located in the constellation Taurus. It is one of the closest and most recognisable objects in the night sky, easily visible to the naked eye as a tight group of stars resembling a "tiny dipper".

Glad you like it! It was a very atmospheric night. I was reminded how fast conditions can change, even on an apparently still night, 10 minutes later there was no halo and the tree-line and spire werenโ€™t visible from there

Night scene. Foreground fields and hedgerows, some trees distinguishable in the middle distance amongst the mist. Church spire breaks the horizon on the right. Sky largely overcast with thin cloud, bright, nearly full (waxing gibbous) moon left of centre surrounded by a '22ยฐ lunar halo'. Jupiter appearing in a less cloudy area in the top right as a bright star-like spot.

The silhouetted branches of a tree against a cloudy night sky. The moon and star-like Jupiter peek through a gap in the clouds. The clouds are iridescent with their light. Reminds me of you.

Night scene - streetlight is in the centre (it is not on/illuminated), with the lamp covering the moon, in the sky a large circle โ€˜haloโ€™ circles the image, almost to the edges, it has subtle spectra, primarily just appearing as a bright white circle. Some clouds intrude into the halo in the top right, and Jupiter appears as a bright white star-like point of light at the 2 oโ€™clock position.

I have had my Orion ShortTube 80 refractor for 30 years. I used it a lot in the 90s with a film camera. Now it is relegated to guide scope duty attached to a ZWO ASI178MM camera. Last night I let them show what they can do on the waxing gibbous moon. Not bad! Details in ALT. #astrophotography

Another target from last night, Sinus Iridium, the Bay of Rainbows. It is a large impact crater that has been flooded by basalt flows. Bianchini is the large crater in top center. Some wrinkle ridges can be seen and the crater Laplace A looks lonely out in the bay. Details in ALT. #astrophotography

My attempt on Maffei 2 - a pretty sizeable disk galaxy, but hidden behind the Galactic dust curtain - so only very few images can be found on astrobin. I had to stretch it rather aggressively to get the faint structure show up prominently. bit.ly/4lB3t68 ๐Ÿ”ญ#astrophotography ๐Ÿ”ญ๐Ÿ“ท

Lots of shots to go through from tonightโ€™s incredible auroral show over Dartmoor. Here are four of my favourites so far. While the camera does see far more than the naked eye, the colours in tonightโ€™s display were the best Iโ€™ve seen in 30 years of mid-latitude aurora watching. #NorthernLights #Devon
