16.10.2025 08:18 β π 9 π 0 π¬ 1 π 01. Ohio State Buckeyes
Despite what Buckeye fans have been whining about all week, nobody thinks Ohio State is anything but a top 3 team in the country. While Indiana's resume at the moment is better, I'm not going to bet against the sheer embarrassment of riches Ohio State has.
2. Indiana Hoosiers (+2)
Last year the Hoosiers climbed to the top of the college football world only to be defeated by the best of the best. This year they marched into Eugene and beat Oregon by double digits in a game that didn't feel all that close. They've earned their spot.
3. Miami Hurricanes
Miami got some much-needed rest after knocking off Florida State. They've got Louisville this week. I don't like the matchup for the Cardinals against Miami's defense, Reuben Bain could be in for a huge game.
4. Oregon Ducks (-2)
Despite the loss, this is still one of the better top to bottom rosters in the league. Look for them to play angry after last week's huge upset. Rutgers, I'm sorry for what's about to happen. Wisconsin and Iowa, I am not.
5. Texas Tech Red Raiders
They got tested big time last week when Behren Morton went down. Backup QB Will Hammond showed his toughness, rushing for two touchdowns and 61 yards. It wouldn't be the end of the world if they rested Morton against Arizona State.
6. Alabama Crimson Tide
I hate it. You hate it. We all hate it. They've bounced back since the season opener. There aren't many QBs playing better than Ty Simpson right now either.
7. Texas A&M Aggies (+4)
I'm not terribly confident in their placement here. But no question they've earned the consideration. We'll see what they're truly made of in the coming weeks against LSU and Texas but so far they've been a very difficult offense to stop.
8. USC Trojans (+7)
I hate it. You hate it. We all hate it. There are few QBs playing better than Jayden Maiava right now. The defense still has some questions but this offense is grooving.
9. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (+4)
4 points and 90 seconds against the #3 and #7 team in the country. Outside of that, they've played as well as anyone. Carr is looking more confident and playing better each week.
10. Mississippi Rebels (-1)
They certainly have good players. But as a whole, the cracks in the armor have been growing larger. They've got back-to-back road games against Georgia and Oklahoma. If the team that played Washington State shows up, the season could be in jeopardy.
11. Georgia Bulldogs (-3)
Go Dawgs but man we got lucky a few too many times last week. The offense just is not clicking, and the defense is lacking their usual ferocity. It's not "over" for Georgia but they've certainly come back down to Earth.
12. Oklahoma Sooners (-6)
On the one hand, John Mateer was rushed back from surgery and that clearly had an effect on the game. On the other though, 21 other starters did not have surgery to recover from, so while alarm bells aren't going off yet, the finger's on the button.
13. Tennessee Volunteers (-1)
I'm just not seeing a contending SEC team here. They've got the pieces to compete, but their defense will simply not allow them to be a playoff level team.
14. Missouri Tigers (-3)
The bad news? That was Beau Pribula and Ahmad Hardy's worst game so far this season.
The bad news? That was Beau Pribula and Ahmad Hardy's worst game so far this season.
The Tigers got some fight in them this year.
15. Utah Utes (+9)
The Utes have bounced back from their first loss of the year by an absolute thwacking of two conference opponents, 90-24. The Holy War (vs. BYU) is usually a close game. Utah needs to come away with this win if they want to make the conference title.
16. LSU Tigers (+1)
I don't care how good the defense is. I'm not ranking them top ten until they can score more than 20 points against a power conference team.
17. BYU Cougars (+2)
Undefeated BYU faces their biggest test of the season against Utah. After that they have a Big 12 gauntlet to get through if they want to match last year's 10-win season.
18. Texas Longhorns (+3)
Signs of life! I know their QB was banged up, but the Longhorns defense smothered Oklahoma. Offensively, this was easily Arch's best game of the season. An encouraging development for a team that cannot afford another loss.
19. Vanderbilt Commodores (-1)
Are they a competitive SEC team? My heart says no. My eyes say maybe. The data says yes. Either way, they've got LSU, Missouri, Texas, and Auburn next. We're sure gonna find out.
20. Nebraska Cornhuskers
If the offense can get into a rhythm, this is a dangerous team. But the offensive line struggles have been a thorn in their side all year. While this was a rough game for Dylan Raiola on paper, he managed to make some outstanding plays last week.

23. Cincinnati Bearcats (-1)
22. Michigan Wolverines (-6)
21. Illinois Fighting Illini (-7)
3. Miami
2. Oregon
1. Ohio State
The definitive top three best teams right now. Absolutely do not care what order you have them, but these are the only three right now.
5. Texas Tech
4. Indiana
If not for Iowa I might humor Indiana in that first tier. The advanced metrics are very good and place them right there with the top three. They've still got a bit more to prove for me before I entertain that though.
10. Texas A&M
9. Mississippi
8. Georgia
7. Oklahoma
6. Alabama
I don't really care about the order here. They've all got statement wins and they've all got concerning games. Mississippi and A&M also have a long history of disappointing. Won't pretend like that's not a factor.
12. Tennessee
11. Missouri
Doesn't feel great but I can't argue for them any lower.
13. Notre Dame
I cannot believe I have been forced to 180 on Notre Dame this year. I am usually an unapologetic hater but the 0-2 start had people talking crazy. This is a good team.
