If they made the story about Dem leadership caving, they’d have to reference why people are mad at Dem leadership, which means they’d have to give voice to the overall concern which is that Republicans are liars who can’t be trusted. But the press refuses to ever do that so we get a process story

*in service.

Whatever. Just frustrating to see this play out exactly as you would have expected when Dems decided to make this specifically about healthcare costs. Too easy for Republicans to say, β€œwell end the shutdown and we’ll talk.”

While the healthcare cost stuff is relevant, it’s all downstream from the corruption. Government on service of the highest bidder who is then more than happy to turn a blind eye to the administration’s other abuses

The Republicans will never ever vote for ACA subsidies in exchange for reopening the government. If if we never move from that position the government will not reopen until after the midterms. Putting them on the record in a month with a vote is the best deal possible

Been scrolling the other site to see the moderate takes and this one stands out mainly because it highlights how the Dem’s shutdown approach was flawed from the beginning. They made it about healthcare, which is basically the only issue Dems can agree on. This take is objectively true, sadly

I like how you can see the exact moment where everyone went, β€œoh jfc what did we do?” which was less than a month into Trump’s 2nd term. Good work everybody!

Blatant pandering to the right wing base. β€œSee? Don’t you see? We’re not liberal! We don’t have Trump Derangement Syndrome! Please stop sending us death threats!”

during the 2016 campaign, the Boston Globe ran a scary mockup front page of what a world where Trump was president would look like, and it’s pretty tame compared to a random Friday morning’s headlines now

I mean it’s already extremely on the nose but if their plans get repeatedly denied and we just go the remainder of the term with a crater where the East Wing used to be it will be the best visual metaphor for this administration imaginable

a tyrant is ignoring the constitution, firing live artillery at americans, invading our cities, and tearing down the white house to build himself a palace

our institutions won't react because they're lost in a digital dreamstate, unable to decide what is true because of social media poisoning

Protesters Denouncing Trump Unite Across the Country

Sharing this as evidence of the protests generating news coverage, which is good! What’s missing is the larger context for why these are happening on the reg and seemingly getting larger in numbers www.nytimes.com/2025/10/18/u...

You would think that globally organized protests in response to your country’s government would encourage news outlets to document the root of the discontent but I guess that’s a little much to ask for

β€œDeplorables” was a scandal for years and she wasn’t even in the government yet. This is the White House Press Secretary, whose salary is paid by the American public.

No one is doing the 8-day week like the Trump admin. If it’s a Thurensday, you can find them hard at work stopping a war

Wild how many prominent people just flat out lie every single day and yet there’s no media market for reporting on these lies.

Eric Trump has had 4 friends who have lost children to fentanyl?? That’s a whopper of a lie and one designed to prop up a Trump policy of blindly murdering people

15.10.2025 19:23 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Would love it if the interviewer asked for an example of a news organization that is β€œclearly on the left” so they could puncture his little straw man argument. Also, awesome how Fox News just gets to exist as a 100% propaganda machine and that just means everyone else is β€œleft leaning” by default

15.10.2025 17:55 β€” πŸ‘ 4    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Trump’s over the top, reality TV-type media productions whenever he purports to do something positive are so obviously propaganda but because they’re so over the top, no one in the journalism business wants to be the downer and go, β€œhey wait a sec… quick question…”

The many media outlets, politicians, and commentators who rushed to declare β€œa great peace, glory to the king!” should ask themselves why they did that, and figure out how to not make the same mistake again.

14.10.2025 12:24 β€” πŸ‘ 568    πŸ” 180    πŸ’¬ 19    πŸ“Œ 14

At the core of this is what I’m increasingly coming to believe is a primary ill of modern society, which is that our overexposure to media and social media means that every interaction, statement, publication, is understood first and foremost as an exercise in personal image and shaped accordingly.

13.10.2025 16:35 β€” πŸ‘ 182    πŸ” 22    πŸ’¬ 5    πŸ“Œ 0

β€œβ€¦due to what he says..” gee are there any major examples of this guy lying previously? Is NPR unable to, I don’t know, research their own reporting to see if we should take this guy at his word?

β€œBucking tradition and legal precedent.” Lol.

I guess according to the sanitizing standards of mainstream media’s neutrality-theater journalism, you can β€œbuck tradition and legal precedent” so hard that you end democratic self-government and the constitutional order altogether.

This is a very big part of why we're descending into authoritarianism. Liberals have spent a decade extremely bored by the need to say obvious things and stand by simple principles.

Even though it’s bullshit the media is running COMEY INDICTED headlines which is how Republicans win messaging every time. They’re hoping most people won’t know the difference between this and a real indictment and the media helps them by not plainly saying β€œTrump Forces DOJ To Indict” in a headline

Just STOP. This clip does not indicate that Trump saw the word acetaminophen for the first time as he was reading from the script in his hands. That’s ridiculous. Get out of your little bubble and talk to someone with a different belief system than your own!!!!

Kimmel's segment had one passing line criticizing the broader MAGA reaction and then the rest of it was playing clips of Trump and making fun of him for ranting about the White House ballroom when asked about Kirk.

Pointing out Trump doesn't even really care about Kirk is what they're censoring.
