a group of three cats sitting on top of each other on a bed . ALT: a group of three cats sitting on top of each other on a bed .

I grew up in London. I was 12 when Talking Heads released “Once In a Lifetime.” Brits had never heard of a shotgun shack!

Um…I thought he was saying “You may find yourself living in a chat en chat” (French for cat on cat).

I thought the house was so tiny the cats were piled on top of each other 🤭

🗣️ I need to shout out to the world, including @abstracttruth.bsky.social, about this album, Leo Chadburn’s Sleep in the Shadow of the Alternator—I believe it’s a pinnacle of musical creation in 2025

It’s a “radiophonic lullaby for a half-forgotten place & time”

Here’s the review I wrote for WXDU

Antoinette Konan, by Antoinette Konan 6 track album

If you’ve not heard Antoinette Konan’s self titled 1986 album, which got reissued in 2019 by the label Awesome Tapes From Africa, you’re in for a treat—it’s joyous, buoyant, and pop-tastic, blending the ahoko (wooden idiophone) with ‘80s electronics

I’ve heard @loulayorke.bsky.social’s beguiling album Hydrology—out on 21 Nov—made from H₂O & electronics that ebb, flow, drip, trickle, pulse, oscillate, & ripple

She’s a modular synthesist who won awards for her women-centered synth-building workshops Atari Punk Girls

Inzovu Y'Imirindi, by Bizimungu Dieudonne 6 track album

Reissue of 2025

In the late 80s, Bizimungu Dieudonne & his wife Agnes Uwimbabazi made a visionary album with a band of family & friends, released on cassette. The couple & several band mates were murdered by Hutu militias in ‘94.

Astounding music

Tacoma Park are a local duo out of Carborro, NC, John Harrison and Ben Felton

I’m loving their latest album of rich instrumental experimental ambience, Glosson Circle Sessions (Glosson Circle is a street of many artists in Carborro)

Election Day (Consensus Mix) (2010 Remaster)
YouTube video by Arcadia - Topic Election Day (Consensus Mix) (2010 Remaster)

Next up, Arcadia

I think they were trying to sound like Japan with a hint of Chic

It was Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, & Roger Taylor of Duran Duran

The Consensus Mix of Election Day is the one!

YouTube video by DJPANCHOBERMUDEZ Power Station Some Like It Hot (Extended Version)

First off, The Power Station

The singer was Robert Palmer, it featured former Chic drummer Tony Thompson, and it had two Duran Duran members, John Taylor (bass) and Andy Taylor (guitar).

The extended edit of Some Like It Hot is fire

Anyway, in the search for some joy while our city is under siege from Trump's thugs, I've been thinking about, and listening back to, Duran Duran spin-off projects (yes, I know, I'm a frivolous person)

But, seriously, the spin-offs, Arcadia and The Power Station, made some TUNES

Let's revisit

It would be good, poltheorist, to send us plentiful evidence that these MAHA/MAGA men have regularly/routinely condemned RFK Jr’s dangerous anti-vaxx views. I know of none. And show us these men’s public campaigns that unequivocally reject RFK Jr & support the childhood vaxx schedule. I know of none

They are bitter MAGA AND MAHA activists, power-hungry political opportunists, and some of the strongest supporters in the nation of RFK Jr’s extreme anti-vaccine activism & conspiracy theories. I have never ever seen them publicly condemn his anti-vaccine views. They act as his henchmen.

This isn’t a fruitful conversation—it is time to draw a line in the sand. These men have regularly talked about the need to “reassess” the childhood schedule. They’re working hand in hand with extreme anti-vaxxer RFK Jr to cast doubt on the schedule. Never have I seen them promote the schedule. END/

The great San Francisco label @darkentries.bsky.social has released another essential Patrick Cowley compilation, "Hard Ware"; Cowley died in '82 of AIDS

The final track, "Ice Age," is so chilling—it feels like a premonition of the impending AIDS pandemic

Global Health After the
Breakpoint: Evidence for
What Comes Next
TUESDAY, DEC. 2
10-11:30 A.M. EST (15:00–16:30 GMT)

2025 has been a breakpoint for global health. Aid donors
have slashed billions in funding, triggering catastrophic impacts.
Amid these cuts, the global health system faces cascading shocks
including geopolitical fragmentation, a retreat from multilateralism,
climate-driven crises, massive human displacement from conflicts,
and debt crises in many low- and middle-income countries that limit
domestic health investments. There’s no going back to the ‘old’ global
health. But what should come next? This webinar dives into the evidence:
What parts of the current system are delivering real impact—and what’s failing
miserably? What should we preserve, overhaul, or abandon altogether? Join us
for a timely, evidence-driven discussion on how to rebuild global health for a more
resilient, equitable and sustainable future.
