Well. Just got a notification that my Shetland Wool Week Annual is on the way. Of course. Just as Canada Post returns to strike. (for the record: I don't object to workers going on strike. I know they're worried. And my SWWA will get here. Eventually.)

Sigh. I bought eyes for the Derpy I'm making for my GD. I bought them and they were sitting here on my desk and now? I'm ready to put eyes on and I cannot find them. I see that Chateau Bornais has ONE set left, and I will be making a bee-line for their booth at the KW Knitters' Fair tomorrow.

Tonight's the night! September is the beginning of the guild year, but it's not too late to join as either a full member or a social member (an excellent option if you crochet and are looking for other yarnies - my partner joined to talk crochet!).

I'd subscribed to this channel because there are lots of cool videos, and this one popped up this morning. Crocheted Jasmine Gajra:

I really love a tea called Puβerh Treasure. Itβs puβerh with dried ginger, dried orange peel, some kind of dried berry, and licorice root, which Iβm not supposed to have. Next up is dried orange peel. Iβll just make my own blend.

A jar of dried yellow ginger.
Okay there is no brown on these, theyβre all just lovely buttery yellow. Costco has boxes of organic Canadian ginger for $9.99, and I dried it. Mostly to add to tea. It was really lovely.

So, I *am* a K-Pop person and I still didn't think the movie was for me. And then discovered my GD was obsessed with it. And told me I should watch it. So we did, and now I'm making her a Derpy for her birthday. Along with some other really good girl-power books for the gift.

He gave me a cortisone shot to relieve the pain, and we reassess in five months. In the meantime, continue with physio and see how it goes. I suspect another knee replacement will be inevitable, it will just be a matter of how long can I hold out.
19.08.2025 20:28 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
As for my actual knee issues -- doc described how a meniscus tear is actually a symptom of arthritis (this happened with my right knee). New x-ray showed arthritis has progressed. The question: can I recover from the tear and get back to where I was, or is this the downward slide towards surgery?
19.08.2025 20:27 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
Well. Some good came out of the AC strike -- for me. Got a call from the surgeon's office yesterday to say, it's short notice, can you make an appointment tomorrow? I mean, yes? Who turns down a specialist appointment. Found out the reason talking to the doctor.

I was really sad -- it's really helpful for me to know I'm getting a package of vegetables once a week. And I liked her and her approach. But I couldn't deny she was right, it was too much out of an already heavy workload to spend an afternoon driving to Guelph and back for a handful of people.
09.08.2025 20:27 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
A lot of things are starting to die off, because the heat is really too much for them. I likely have a bit more basil for pesto, but those plants will get pulled this week. I want to plant in lettuces and kale/chard, but it's just too hot for them. So, I wait.
09.08.2025 20:26 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
So I'm going to cook all the potatoes in the pressure cooker and set half aside for another meal. I went out to our garden and picked all the beans that were ripe -- enough for two meals, so I'll probably make a potato and bean salad tomorrow. Or Monday.
09.08.2025 20:25 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
I decided to get two lots of potatoes (and yep, she told me to grab a couple more), and a glorious cauliflower. Then I said, hmm, radish. But the radishes were less expensive, so she asked if I wanted to toss some herbs in to make it $20. She had really nice dill -- mine didn't grow. Super!
09.08.2025 20:25 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
I also wanted some new potatoes. I was tempted by some fingerlings, but they were storage AND those, you have to roast them. We are living in a sauna right now, so nope. But they had really lovely yellow potatoes. Woman at the stall said if I bought four items, it would be $20. Okay!
09.08.2025 20:23 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
I knew I wanted some tomatoes -- saw a farmer who had pint boxes, a few slicers with a few smaller tomatoes. I said I'd been looking for slicers, but also liked a few smaller, so it was perfect. As he packed it up, we talked about how hard this summer is, and he tossed in a few more small tomatoes.
09.08.2025 20:22 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
So I asked Rob to give me a figure on how much it would work out a week to buy from the farmer's market.Don't go every week, but enough to feel like I'm getting good produce. This morning: sugar pears, peaches. They tossed in a couple of Vampire Plums simply because I said I was curious about them.
09.08.2025 20:21 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0
Yes, I was sad, because I liked her approach, but I get it. Farming is effing hard work, and it's a big chunk of time to drive to Guelph when there aren't enough people who have bought a share. But it was also too late to sign up elsewhere.
09.08.2025 20:19 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
Because Ignatius Farm is taking a fallow year, I went and looked at a number of places doing farm shares -- found a nice, small, woman-owned farm who was trying out delivery to Guelph. Signed up. Was very happy, but she had to cancel deliveries to Guelph because too few people had joined in.
