They weren't allowed to work with metal (many were foresters and bakers). Weren't allowed into churches (they queued at the Cagot door to receive holy communion). They stretched throughout the Basque region and south-west France. And nobody knew - then or now - why they were ostracised.

Indeed - they play a pretty central part to the whole imPerfect Cathar mythos (Paul's dead wife was Cagot), and show up in several of the books.

I've been fascinated by them ever since stumbling across a Cagot Door in a church in the south-west of France while visiting an Israelite cemetery...

At 17, she inherits a golden necklace, sells it & buys a bookstore, with a home of her own above. Bry realizes that she'd rather read than sell, or even talk to customers! Her sociable friend, Tisha, makes most of the sales and doesn't even get paid. The store is in the red, debts are mounting, & Bry fears she may lose it. When a customer ( 'Mr Smokin Hot' in her mind) takes her on a date & offers to help her get a loan, she is ecstatic! This is where her life spirals into Twilight Zone territory! A strange missive appears in the store, and a little lawyer informs her shes been bequeathed a House/Apartment from her unknown grandmother. Meeting the residents is as mysterious as the House, and she is a witch! Can Bry use the mysterious magic inside her? Will she win over the divergent denizens in the House? Can she keep everything she owns away from the evil intentions of unknown adversaries? Oh, and there IS a Giant!! 5 stars!!
