I hear you. After today the days will be getting shorter. Winter is coming.

I wish there was a way to downvote Dev.to articles and separate the significant amount of noise from signal.

I would participate then.

I am reminded this every now and again when one of their clickbaity or factually incorrect posts get picked up in one of my feeds.

What if neurodivergent isn't the divergent?

What if what we think is normal is the divergent?

Imagine THAT world.

The fact that this pastor can say this, and not immediately be struck by lightning, is exactly the proof I needed that god does not exist.

I just read that the new iPhone Air might achieve a full day of use for 60-70% of users. How is that even practical? Worse, how is that even acceptable given the premium pricing?

Hollandaise is just hot mayonnaise minus the egg white.

Why is it that the cat can sleep soundly on the tv remote yet the moment you try to dig it out you get the look of "hey, stop that, that's uncomfortable"?

That is a fair point. I am the same. All I need is a browser most of the time. My secondary machine is an i5 Chromebook in dev mode with Debian.

I want native Linux since all my cloud infrastructure is Linux. And everytime I try MacOS I spend an absurd amount of time fixing the poor UI with plugins and configs. Windows works out of the box.

What if the EU rebranded as the Democratic Union and accepted qualified member countries across the globe?

I got fed up of Docker Desktop alway crashing WSL2 and uninstalled it. Replaced it with Docker CE the same as my other environments.

Now my Windows startup is instant, I don't have the fan whirring all the time and things are generally snappier.

I can always run Portainer if I need a GUI.

Not surprised. Saddened but not surprised. Other than direct visits to TGH the only Toronto I have seen since about 2017 is QEW to University/College and back again. I bet the Annex looks very different than when I last saw it.

The temperature and weather did an abrupt about-face yesterday. I've still been using my heating which typically gets turned off in March. I almost forgot what it is like to function in a T-shirt.

What is DRL?

I'm roasting outside. Laptop under the umbrella. Quite hot. Lake is absolutely flat. Frogs/Peepers are deafening. Birds are singing. No hoomins to be heard or seen anywhere

Pre Facebook it was a great tool to discover talented photographers, mostly amateur. With a square aspect ratio, a handful of basic filters and no way to upload a manipulated image, it depended upon composition.

Now it is just garbage.

Credit where credit is due, the engineering is rock solid. But the DX is 10-20 years old and unacceptable by the standards set today by other cloud providers.

I am so spoiled by Cloudflare. AWS Cloudfront is such a miserable experience. Actually just about all of AWS is a miserable experience.

.Net circa 1.1 (~20 years ago) did this if I recall. The script tag needed a runat=server attribute. But it goes against the principals of separation of concerns and justs unwieldy to manage.

I taught myself how to code on one of those. We had two in my highschool science Dept and the teachers didn't know what to do with them. But they let my friend Dave and spend our lunches typing in code from magazines. I am forever grateful.

The problem with XR glasses coming from Meta, Google, etc is that they are, well, glasses.

As someone who has worn glasses for the last 10 years, given the choice, I would not.

They're uncomfortable, steam up and slip off your face when you're upside down under the sink fixing a leak.

Reminder: Setting a horror film in space does not make it science fiction

Reminder: (Most) superhero stories are fantasy, not science fiction.

Note: We are overdue for a good science fiction film.

AHS in Alberta is now referring to measles outbreaks in schools as a โ€œmysterious rash like illnessโ€. In case you were wondering why people here are still voting conservative.

Somehow, the future is both going to be a dystopian techno sci-fi hellscape AND we're gonna have coal and measles and robber barons and a permanent underclass.
