Denying redress to abuse in care survivors who've committed crimes is unconscionable. Essentially they're saying the Crown will only show remorse for their failings to people who don't show their damage on the outside.

Tighter rules may be needed to stem flow of public submissions, says MP 'Coordinated, largely online campaigns' make it harder for politicians to consider good-faith submissions on laws

This is arguing about what equipment to kit the ambulance with at the bottom of the cliff. Stop unnecessary urgency, stop accepting rubbish bills that don't clear the quality bar, and you won't end up with a firehose of outrage from a disrespected public. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

A small wrinkle in the Jobseeker policy The government’s recent changes to benefits feel like this: the house is on fire, and this policy is them turning off the smoke alarm and saying it’s fixed

#nzpol Sometimes a policy is so stupid it makes you question the very fabric of reality. Decisions so fabulously, almost wantonly dumb, you wonder if we actually live in a simulation. Welcome to the world of removing Jobseeker Support for 18 & 19-year-olds. craigrenney.substack.com/p/a-small-wr...

NZ not yet recognising Palestinian state, Foreign Minister Winston Peters announces The government has decided against recognising Palestinian statehood, retaining its "when, not if" position.

The coalition is out of step with the people of Aotearoa New Zealand and out of step with the world. Shame on all of them.

Long-term changes needed to bailouts, natural disaster responses - Christopher Luxon The government is looking at what the Tasman district needs, but in the long-term it can't keep bailing people out after disasters, the PM says.

After introducing dozens of policies to increase greenhouse emissions, undermining global efforts to cut the climate pollution which drives more extreme flooding events, Luxon says his Govt wants to take LESS responsibility for the damage caused by ITS OWN policies. www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...

The tit for tat row between the deputy PM and an academic It’s a standoff with no signs of retreat - one championing academic freedom, the other pressing for what he views as long-overdue regulatory reform.

For crying out loud Stuff, this is NOT "tit for tat" ... this is one person (the deputy PM no less) using his platform & power to target academics & others who speak up from evidence against his proposals, and another speaking up to defend folks & ask him to stop.

Anne Salmond: Victim of the Day Dame Anne Salmond on a lame but personally intimidating campaign launched by Deputy Prime Minister David Seymour against academic critics of his Regulatory Standards Bill

"At a time like this, it is extraordinary that a Deputy Prime Minister here should initiate an online campaign of intimidation against university scholars, using Trumpian rhetoric and tactics to harass them for exercising their academic freedom."

Suppose it were a woman MP who was caught on camera, maggoted and ranting at an event.

She'd be gearing up for a fortnight-long news cycle in which she'd be forced to admit having an unhealthy relationship with alcohol, encouraged to divulge personal information, and made to apologise repeatedly.
