One shop in Augusta prints the ballots. Envelopes are printed at another shop, unsure where. The ballots get sealed in sets of 50 and mainly UPS’d (but some USPS in rural areas) to towns. I thought the SOS elections division mailed them, but apparently they come straight from the printer.

So the chain of custody is still traceable, if 250 ballots went missing from a clerks office or mail room we should be able to pinpoint where exactly they left from and can investigate that and who is responsible.

Once ballots have been voted they are handled in the locked metal boxes by hand etc.

SOS actually does use UPS (and some USPS for rural towns) to get the sealed sets of ballots to each town. However the shipping happens in sealed, inventoried, boxes, where SOS (sender) and town clerk (recipient) count and sign off to ensure the correct number of everything is included.

It appears the ballots are real. They obviously did not show up in an amazon box (and funny how the recipient's first call was not the police but the Maine Wire...), but a serious interception of ballots took place.
