“That they should be the ones to welcome Pope Francis’s coffin in the basilica is because these people are those who represented the focus of his mission,” said Father Giulio Albanese, head of missionary cooperation and communications for the Vicariate of Rome. “They are those who live on the peripheries, geographical and existential peripheries.”
The final honor guard for Pope Francis included migrants, prisoners, transgender people, the homeless and others selected by the Vicariate of Rome as a symbol of the late pope’s mission of inclusion and outreach.

The White House is touting that it is transparent, but much of what is known about what Elon Musk is doing to the federal government is via media reporting, not the administration explaining exactly what is happening and what the plan is.

Any Paramount Global settlement with Trump over the 60 Minutes interview would be an extraordinary cave on the part of a major media company.

NEW: Welcome to the "try and stop me" presidency.
Donald Trump's onslaught of executive actions, summary firings and outright breaches of laws meant to check executive power are an implicit bet that courts and Congress ultimately won't check him.

The core economic issues of the election — prices, taxes, etc. — will require the slog of getting things passed in Congress, where the GOP has a narrow majority.

I just saw one major publication claim that no other modern president has done more in his first six days than Trump. But this is all by executive order — a number of which are being challenged in court, by Congress or, in the words of one judge, blatantly unconstitutional.

If you Google "inauguration day," you're greeted with an animation of fireworks forming the shape of the American flag. Google has never done something like this for the inauguration, sources told me, out of fear of appearing partisan. But that's changed now, with Sergey and Sundar attending.

In the House chamber for the speaker vote, to take place before the swearing in of a new Congress. Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), key holdout to Mike Johnson, is seated along the center aisle. It's about the same spot where Matt Gaetz sat when he held out on Kevin McCarthy two years ago.
